Idle Issue?!!
« on: March 08, 2015, 08:18:20 PM »
454. Mild build-049 heads 278 xtreme marine cam. 10.5 compression, New 850DP Holley as of last July. Toward the end of the season I started noticing the idle getting worse and worse, didn't look into it cause I didn't want to bother at the time.

Took it out today and it kept dying after I would slowly left off the gas after cruising. Other thing it does is when it idles it does so sporadically, every time I start it, it will idle at a different rpm and sound different. If I give it gas real quick it will hesitate and cut out.

I'm thinking its a vacuum leak..any other ideas?

Thanks

Vacuum leak is a good place to start looking.  What distributor do you have?  Inspect it to make sure the advance mechanism isn't binding up.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

MSD Streetfire HEI. I know its not the best but the weight don't seem to bind at all every time I test them.

Check the accelerator pumps.

What exactly do you suggest checking on the pumps?

Make sure they're both squirting properly.. If not, that would definitely cause your hesitation on acceleration
