MSD works well under about 4,000 rpm. Once the revs go much past that it works like a conventional CD box. Imho the engine will run cleaner and crisper with it and have more reserve flame front at wide open throttle.

Not only that, but you have the option to utilize a rev limiter.

The box utilizes the signal from the distributor and switches the coil. And to answer your question directly, yes it can be used in conjuction with the RTR.

ive had a 6a box apart and id be amazed if any water got into that thing

in my boat i have the GM Performance PArts ignition controller (made by MSD part number 6012) and up til recently it regularly was getting wet from my headers

it still works grest

I went with a summit billet small cap distributor,  msd 6a box, and a msd blaster high vibration coil in the bahner

Runs awesome. Might be an option. And the small car distributor looks nicer imo
