Pull her down to ZERO and check every tolerance.

I personally would not just toss it in.

If any little thing goes sideways, your investment will be lost.

There could literally just be a random bolt left loose or a nut or something down the intake.

Been down both of those roads.

Quick story before the Jameson kicks in and I'm off to lala land.

I took an engine in on a bad debt. It was an LS7 with zero runtime.

At the time I had a 1975 3/4 ton 4X4 Chevy that had a hurt motor. So I simply put the motor in because I was strapped for cash. I checked what I could, but didn't pull it apart. Big mistake.

I got it running (ran insanely well) and took it down the block, run through the gears, awesome. Came back to my shop, pull into the driveway,  heard a loud metallic bang, no oil pressure and knocking like an '80's rock band.

After taking the engine back out  (it was in and running for less than a day) I found that whoever put it together installed the wrong bolt to retain the oil pump to the main,  it broke the bolt and rod 7 and 8 ate the pump. Breaking one rod and shattering one piston ultimately cracking the block,  destroying the crank, block and one head.

It was a $3 bolt.

Ended up selling the truck to pay the shop rent.

What could have been a turning point in my life, basically ended up a sad story on an Internet chat board. .
