I've never done it I'm lucky enough to have an older friend I have been boating with for years that takes care of it for me seen him do it he makes it look easy but I know it's not hell I even had something get stuck in mine once he took it apart in a cove and fixed it so he didn't have to tow me back

Is that an electric choke? It could've vibrated out of adjustment if it is.

Pretty sure that you can adjust that style by moving the plastic body of it left and right. Check to make sure it's not loose first. It may be out of adjustment at idle.

With boats and a rich condition use the KISS method first before you start tearing stuff apart. Process of elimination.

This little thing i circled with the wires going to it.

The black plastic piece stamped with "Holley" can turn clockwise or counterclockwise if you loosen the three screws on the housing.

See the hash marks just behind the black plastic? There should be an index mark on the top of that choke housing to line it up with those hash marks.

Make sure it's not too far out of adjustment. It's not likely to be your issue but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just something to check.

For choke adjustment. Engine cold, ignition off, pull the flame arrestor (air cleaner looking dealio) and grab a 3/16" drill bit. Adjust the choke to where the butterfly just touches the bit at the air horn..

Once done, turn the key on and make sure that black cap starts to warm up and the butterfly begins to open. Should take about 30 seconds to start to move.

I doubt seriously the choke is out.

I agree, GT. Just getting him to understand some basics he can familiarize himself with.

Carbs are fairly basic but you have to know what the parts of them are and how they work in relation to each other to find a solution.

Thanks again guys for the info. Another question by flipping the valve covers to get the breather in the front, I would need to get a longer hose for the other side to connect to the carb I would assume?
