OK GOT A PROBLEM
« on: May 08, 2014, 02:53:47 PM »
every time i shut off the ignition via the key, it pops the 30amp circuit breaker on the back of the wire block. what the hell!?

new since last year: ignition switch, double grounds to battery from back of the block, new wire block, rewired the motor to wire block , new circuit breaker , and new connectors, and 3 new wires to dash from wire block , new ground, new power wire and new ignition wire.

any help?

Alt is 8 gauge to engine side of wireblock . There is a jumper shunt on the boat side connecting it to terminal which goes to dash and to circuit breaker

Does it do it even if you don't start it and by just turning key on then off?

I also believe it's a issue with the alternator( wiring or the alternator it self). Disconnect the alternator at the terminal block and see if you still have the problem.

It's typical to have the jumper mine was wired that way. If it's a single wire alt sounds like the internal regulator is going bad and discharging when off. Double check your ground to block to battery also bud

or ditch the breaker and run to auto zone and buy a fuse holder and put a regular fuse on it and see what happens. The breaker could be taking a crap too

If running a coil ignition check ground make sure is good. Check all grounds if runs and trips when turn off can be back feeding through a ground!

CHROMEY,

Got your message after midnight, sorry about that.

The field on the alternator is not shutting off during shut down. Do you have a single wire? Or are there three wires?

A single wire alternator needs to be wired directly to the battery, is that how yours is set up? It should go right to the starter solenoid. Nowhere else.

I need to go back into the thread and see if I see something funny.
