Find that hard to beleive, but how much damage was done to the engine running it with that valve closed? Means no cooling water to the engine at all, let alone to the snails and exhaust or anywhere else. 

Typically, I have found that most Ford milkshake issues start at intake manifold gaskets, Particularly, the "bathtub" style gaskets (Don't use 'em, use the marine gaskets, gaskacinch around the water ports and a bead of clear silicone at the ends of the block). Have seen it from the timing cover or water pump blockoff plates leaking as well, same thing, use gaskacinch. Done it twice myself. 

Once in a while, happened to me also, reversion can be an issue, but this would be the first time I ever heard of it with logs, and probably not a hot cam that is usually the culprit.

You gotta find the prob tho, like Ray said hard to believe the water valve was closed from the pump, woulda fried alot. Iffen you keep running it with water in the oil, NOT a good thing

I've been running 460 jets since 1977.  I agree with the other post, pressure test your logs.  They seem to be the weak link
in the water area. 

 If you had the bath tub intake gasket (hard to believe) that would be my second spot.

Third would be make sure your timing chain cover isn't eaten through somewhere and leaking in the crank case.   
I'm guessing the logs though. 

 If it were the timing chain it would probably lead to a lot of water.

Intake and logs can seep for quite a while.

When you say you changed the exhaust gasket you do mean the riser (round one) right?  If so were the flanges
clean and FLAT?

The other question is where was the boat last winter.....  you know where that's going.

when i took off the intake the gaskets looked fine but i could wrong. the head gaskets were the original so couldnt really tell much there. ive been looking for crackes in the block and heads and dont see any but i know that a crack still could be somewhere.
