What is this for?

This piece was hooked to my outdoing water hose from the gate valve. (on the side that bypasses my headers)
It has two check balls in the bottom two outlets and a larger out put back out the boat. It has always had the two on the bottom looped with a piece of tubing. It was like that when I got the boat so that is how I left it. I dont think it was right. Today, for som reason it decides to slip letting all the water to stay inside the boat. I put a coat of resin on it, It doesnt leak no more, But is this piece have to be there? I didny have it hook up right anyway, Or dose someone know the way to install it right?

It has way to much resin on it ( not pot resin ), But has any body seen one of this before? I did find a little leak when I put some press. to it. Should I go threw the mess and hassle to fix it or toss it? I think Ill toss it.

Chris Craft, Grey Marine and others used a "two way" check valve like that in the late 50's, I think it was used on the heat exchanger water piping because the exhaust systems were almost below the water line, I can't remember how they were plumbed but if memory serves it was for keeping the water from running back into the exhaust after the engine shut down, otherwise I have never seen a double check like that ever used on a small boat.

How does it smoke? O0 ;D

Wow! that things ancient! I believe it to be an old (real old) school berkeley bildge pump!  a hose came from the middle to the bildge! I'm 40, been doin jetboats for 25 years and none of them had one of these! BUT I do rember seeing this in a berkeley jet catalog!   :o

Is this the part that mounted to the transom and had a hose that went to a cast aluminum strainer at the bottom of the bilge?

We still use something similar, but no check valves, its called a venturi pump, it uses the water from the jetpump to "pull" the bilge water through the strainer. Thanks, that makes perfect sense, that thing looks way over engineered!

Why doesn't it pump water into the bildge?  I understand water will take the path of least resistance but wouldnt that be downhill into the bildge area for a certain % of the water depending on the hose size?  Or is there a 1 way check valve built into the line somewhere?

The one that jjpp250 has, has check valves the one in the whitewater boat has an inverted trap and blows down (so to speak) so no matter what it can't fill the bilge, only the driver does that ::) The move a buttload of water when at full pressure, I made it out of copper pipe so it will proably outlast the boat.

Anybody need one for their circle boat?
