I have a question i just put a new starter in my boat and when i hook up the battery as soon as i touch the ground wire to the terminal the motor starts to crank. What would cause this?

I had that on my buddys boat and it stumped the hell outta me. It ended up the new starter had a metal plate in between the man power and the exiter wire I pulled it and it worked fine. well that starter went out on friday so I called autozone for a replacement (it was a lifetime warranty deal) and used the part number off the starter, the new starter didn't have a metal strap/plate.. so You might want to check that.
