gel coat repair or reshoot?
« on: September 09, 2015, 10:00:55 AM »
hi all,
looking for a shop to reshoot or repair my eliminator  bubble deck. it was run up on the rocks and has some gouges in it down to the matting damage is on side of boat as well. i thought the right way to do this would be to pull motor flip and repair then reshoot but the ins adjuster said they will just do the work with it sitting on blocks and patch the affected areas.  2000 plus for the estimate would be given by insurance.
my question is who is the best gel coat repair in so cal, and is just a patch job vs flip n full shoot n repair of bottom/ side hull?

I've seen KMGs work on a couple of boats, very top notch.

Imho, the original gel is tougher than a redo. The only reason a large area would be spayed like that is if the color was being changed. That is an awful lot of blocking and polishing to do the entire bottom. That's a $5,000+ job.

They're probably going to spray the small areas to be repaired and should be able to match really close to the original color.

How old is the boat?

I don't know of any guys down in that area, but I know of three up here in the SF Bay area.

Good luck.
