« on: March 16, 2010, 06:11:26 PM »
i needs tips and procedures on wet sanding as i have never done it, and i am tired of waxing my boat...the gel is still really nice, but i feel it can use a little more....when the boat is waxed it has a killer reflection but i seem to lose it after a couple of trips, and yes the boat stays covered sooo what ya'll got?

Josh 1500 and a block sponge with some soapy water work it back and forth to you get a real fine cut. Buff Magic works great also no need to color sand with that stuff.

i use 2000 grit paper. just keep it wet and pay attention because you can cut thru the paint/gell coat. start in a place that you cant realy see. like below the water line till you get a feel for it.

but to tell you the truth everytime i do it the place i start looks the best and i start to lose interest as the hours pass on.

1.1000 grit
2.1500 grit
3.2000 grit
4.fine cutting liquid (I prefer Meguiers)
5.scratch and swirl remover
6.polish and cleaner
7.final wax

I prefer meguiers for all of my wax/polish needs.

Dont worry about cutting through gel because it will take a while to do that.

PM me if you have any questions.  I have done this a ton on my boat.

leadsled is got most of it. josh, if you do it in steps like 1500,2000,2500 it will be alot easy to buff/rub out.also just sand tell you see the paint dull and always keep washing the sandpaper in a bucket.you feel the paper stop cutting change it to a new one,you do not need to press hard let the paper do the work. meguiers has the best uniform paper. i use 3m compounds.
