waxes polishes etc-
« on: March 28, 2008, 09:44:25 PM »
Sorry if this is getting posted in the wrong section, but what kind of waxes or polishes are used on you all's boats.  The new Hondo's gel is in pretty good shape accept for couple small areas where it looks like the glitter is begining to go flat- Here is the odd part- if I polish thease areas they shine up, but the depth does not come back, but if I use my finger or oil off my skin it comes back like new- any ideas??????

yeah i'll be going over there most likely i got there alot...anyway factory i was thinking...another good way is get one of them nice 7 inch variable speed buffers and use the meguires...in all reality there is alot of product you can use that's why we have the internet at hand...do some research and im sure you will have others chime in on this...hell you can always color sand it

a light wet sanding to remove any crap and oxidation and a good polish with a buffer will do wonders!

3M makes a really good cleaner/buffer/shiny gel maker for boats, I like it, I use it. Follow it up with a good 3M wax and you're in like Flynn

The guy that bought my Miller was a pro detailer. I told him the gel was cracked in spots under the paint and after you waxed it you could see the cracks as white wax lines. This is a copy and paiste of the two emails of this guy's recomendations for wax.

"Hey Rod, I use a wax called "Pro Gold" put out by a company called "Pro". They sell all kinds of detail supplies and I have been using Pro Gold for 10+ years. I use it for a buffing compound and also a hand wax. It's the best all around wax I have ever seen. It is gold in color but not liquidy like other waxes, it's still a liquid but thick so it's not runny and messy, it usually doesn't leave traces of wax unless you use too much. Here is the the web site, http://www.prowax.com/waxes.shtml, it's the 1st item. It's like $33/Gal or $9/pint. There is also some wax for boats down the page a little, it should be good but I have never tried it. The Pro Gold is good for any painted surface from boats to cars. Anyway, it's the best in my opinion. Hope this helps you. Later"

"I was just looking looking at the page with pro gold on it and at the bottom of that page is another hand wax I use to use until pro gold came out. It's called "yellow wax". It is an awesome wax that will leave no traces of residue, it is kind of transparrent and it will work you to the bone."
