« on: December 18, 2013, 03:41:49 PM »
Alright I'm looking at getting this for my next project. Not sure I don't know much about them but I need to know if it's worth it and what you guys think. Says its a 1970 Beez Mayer 21ft day cruiser. 460 BBF been sitting for quite some time says there's only about 30 hrs on motor but its been sitting and I saw water in the carb do who knows what's inside the motor. Berkeley JB pump, unknown impeller. Anybody know what these things run? Info? Facts? Ill post pics it's pretty dirt gonna need sanded and re painted or gel

The guy has it, not sure why he took it off tho. I know some guys don't like hauling with the nozzle part on cause its so long and hangs down? But yeah it definitely needs a lot of attention I see the potential in everything tho. Just not sure if it'd be worth getting into or not. He's wanting 550 for it and even at that I'm sceptical.. Basically I see a hull that needs completely redone with an engine that may or may not run and even if it does there's no way I'm gonna run it with out going through it..

how deep are your pockets?

that being said i found my 21 in a dirt field sitting on a load of tires bow down.  anything is possible.  but it takes time and money.  based on the pix that boat is a complete gut and throw away.  things like steering, throttle, gas lines, wiring, etc are all probably old cracked and rusty... and most importantly NOT SAFE!  you'll have to start over from scratch.  the fact that its been sitting outside you need to worry about structural things like the stringers and floor.  they're probably rotten from standing water and will need to be replaced.  trailer looks like it needs to be stripped and redone, tires, bearings, etc.

i didnt care when i started my project because i knew that i was going to replace everything with new. it just depends on what you want to spend.

im not sure how many hulls are laying around in your neck of the woods but around here a 21 cruiser can be found pretty easily in great shape for next to nothing.

me personally unless you had some emotional tie to this boat, i would walk.

That's thing looks not good from the pics.  I see a lot of work and maybe more then what you can see.  I agree with Ka0tyk how deep are your packets.  If you do get the boat sale trailer and pump and scrap the hull.  Good luck on the project if you go that rout.  Anything can be done.

Lol yeahhhh I figured it would be a long shot and here in missouri there aren't to many jets sittin around but I come across one every now and then just haven't seen any 21 footers that's what I was more interested cause it'd handle a lot better on the ozarks. I appreciate everyone's opinions tho. I know it would be a complete job if picked it up. The tanks and lines and cables actually looked ok since all that was under that engine cover and didn't take on much sun and he did have two bran new cables and shifter for it. I'm still pondering the idea but ill probably walk I've had my eye on a 18ft nordic bubble deck for a while that I may end up with in the near future. Just got a wild hair up my ass when I came across the 21 footer. But yeah I thought about shooting him an offer of a couple hundred to take it off his hands and I tried to let him know its basically worth the pump and that's about it.. But thanks again guys! Opinions and pointers are still welcome

If its truly a Biesemeyer, It would be worth the effort.
Build it the way you want it, not settling on a 455 G/E combo like a lot of 21's have.
This hull is similar to my 21 eliminator, and takes the chop of the big lakes well. (Lake Mead/Mohave)
Is it a 4 stringer hull? Is the bottom straight? That BBF/Berk combo will be a good set-up for that hull.
You might find a better project in AZ/Socal.
Good luck.

For the amount of money you're going to drop in that boat you're better off driving to Arizona or California and picking up a lot cleaner project. You would end up spending less on gas then what you're going to put in that project.
Walk away and keep looking for something else

Like I said I'm in missouri so I won't be looking for a hull that's on the west coast lol but as far as the hull goes it looked pretty straight a few scratches on the bottom but I didn't see any major gouges or holes or anything, I'm not sure how many stringers it has the floor is still in it an the carpet which actually doesn't look bad but could definetely be cleaned up. The floor seemed to be holding up but who knows what it looks like under the carpet. The inside does t look to bad I don't have a clue what happened to the outside looks like it'd been sitting under a couple trees the passed few years. Ill post a few more pictures I took when I looked at it.

But yeah I bet I could find a lot cleaner project for a hell of a price in cal or az and drive to get it and bring it back for a grand but like I said I have my eyes on a nordic bubble deck that has a bbf and a berkeley in it for a grand.

just for comparison i paid $100 for my 21 and gave him $50 to use his tractor to load it onto my trailer.

the guy with the 21 near you should be paying you to take it off of his lot.

Lol yeah I came across your thread about that 21 I wish there were more jet boats in general around here but there just isn't. I like your 21 damn I wish this one was in better shape but I'm more than likely going to walk. I may run it by the guy that its basically junk and if he doesn't wanna get rid of it for almost nothing then I hope he finds the sucker that's gonna pay him for it. I hate when people want way to much for things that are just clearly not worth half of what they ask. I mean I could end up getting it and start tearing into it and realize the thing is just to far gone and pull the motor and pump and any other usable parts and bury the thing..

Well if you live in CA anywhere there is quite the drive for me from missouri but it's a possibility I could definitely take a road trip for something decent for sure, my grandparents live right outside of pheonix but we don't communicate much anymore due to family drama but I wouldn't be able to do take a trip that way until closer to summer. Budget wise I guess it just depends on the day and what's included with it and the type of boat/ brand and all that. It definitely seems if I want something decent for a  project CA and AZ is where I'm going to find it
