Need Help Identfying this Tahiti
« on: March 07, 2016, 04:26:35 PM »
I just picked this Tahiti last week. Runs good so far and is a pretty fun boat. However, I was looking for some help on identifying what the model of the boat is. It is a 1976 and it is an 18ft boat. The HIN is TAH254361075 and it has the -76 next to it for the year. Here are a few pictures of it so hopefully it can be identified. Thanks for the help!

Looks like a replica of the Soutgwind 18. Those are probably the most common hull from the 70's. I don't know anything about Tahiti.

I'm almost 100% sure that when Tahiti splashed the Southwind it was called the 'Super Tiger'. The 'Tiger' was the old 18.

I've been running into the same issue with this '76 Tahiti.. They look to be similar. Trying to figure out its value and nada only goes back to '78. Just didn't know the difference between super tiger and tiger

Yessir I heard you were pretty much the go to guy when it comes to Tahiti info. After looking through pictures and the help of a few guys I believe we have come to the conclusion that it is a Super Tiger.

Welcome back old rigger

Dan'l

Thanks, I check in now and then to see all the cool projects.

MDomingue12, you have the old Tiger. Tahiti built a gazillion of them, so did Kona and a bunch of other shops.

A quick giveaway that you can see at a glance is the gunnel on your boat has a step in it, about a foot in front of the gas fills. T_hess's boat has straight gunals, but the 2 have share nothing except the emblem.

I think I've bored my share of boat owners enough through the years. thanks though.

By the way, Hardin also owned Berkeley a few years later and that made it very tough for us (in my opinion) at Advantage. I was GM/rigger there and the owner had a rule that we couldn't buy parts from any company that built boats AND supplied parts. This was a few years after Advantage was up and running because they built a ton of boats early on with berks in them. So we couldn't buy Berkeleys because Hardin built Tahitis/Carribeans, couldnt use Dana billet parts because they also built boats and there were 2 more players like that but I can't think of them right now. Those were the main 2. Again this is my opinion mainly from my years for working with Roger but if you're not using a berk you're doing it wrong. lol He wouldn't build a jet without one, many tried to get him to install another pump but he stayed true to his way of building.
