Opinions of hot rod/cruiser hulls?

What would be considered a good all around "hotrod"/ cruiser hull? One where a person could throw in 500hp and hairless and then when the party settles, my son could take a nap under the deck..picture a person wanting to go in the lake AND the river, do 60mph (when it's smoother chop lol) with my wife, 3 3yr old son and a beer cooler( or two ;-)) then turn around and bust out a skier.. basically an all around family friendly float that has a little, "umf!".. thanks for some input!

Hallett, Spectra, mini cruisers are obvious ones if you ask me.

My next boat will be the one I grew up on: Spectra 20.

More people skied behind our boat than any other in the group. It was the perfect do everything boat. Would also hold 60 all day long. Enough freeboard to handle any of the lakes, but also the right size for upper or lower river.

I'm always looking for hulls in that category (jet and v-drive)

I think a bubble deck hull is a family friendly hull. But thats me, I grew up on one. ('74 Eliminator, in the 70's)

I have an Eliminator (mini) day cruiser, seats 5 easily, 57 mph gps'd up river, pulls a 290 lb single skier, or cruise havasu/mohave/mead on the windiest days. I can pack more crap into that barge then I'll ever need. (bbq, easy-up, chairs, table, kids' toys, 3 or 4 skis, etc)

With that being said, I miss having a smaller, low profile, open header'd, no- cup holders, no bimini top, ice chest haulin' rooster throwin, loud, simple jet boat. I'm building a '74 Miller 19' SJ right now. (2 seats & open headers

)

I've been from Katherines to Willow Beach in a 'bubble deck' and from Davis Dam to Parker Dam, and the Parker strip, all in a 'bubble deck', you just gotta watch the wind/weather a 'lil more on the lakes.

And bigger hulls take bigger HP to go (only) 57, just sayin'.

I wanted something very similar, didn't need to go as fast. But now that I have it I wish it did at least 55. Haha
Plus I wish it had jump seats.

Thanks guys! Im still do a ton of research and will be able to buy something turn key in decent condition in fall of 2016(I need to finish scholl in Washington) when my family moves to kingman. For now im like a sponge, soaking up as much knowledge as possible...looks like(from all the ad's on cl and other various sites) I might be able to score a decent mini cruiser for around $7-8000...

All great boats listed above. Would like to add a couple.
Our 20' Advantage is a good river cruiser, but not as much freeboard as many others.
And our 20' Rogers has even less, but sporty

my 1985 Bahner (19'11") will top out at 60..... pull a tube or skiers all day, has enough freeboard to handle most everything, holds 6 people and gear for days.

I don't know if it's a day cruiser or mini day cruiser ..... but it works.

I am on my first jet boat since day one...Spectra 18. When I went out looking at hulls, it was more about long term, integrity and overall fun. Not a fast hull but have floated onto a rock, been hit at sandbar/dock/trailer by inexperienced boaters. This hull was a great choice and by now could of had a gullwing or some other performance hull with the coin tied up in it. I like the fact it has more room/clearance under dash for subs/legs or carry alongs and not so much a worry at float with wakes. I have redid floor/interior/sounds to my liking. With the pump/engine mods...its a super fun, handling cruiser at just 18'.

Find a hull you like and then throw money at it until it's fast enough for you.

I don't think you're asking for too much with a 60mph cruiser. There are alot of good running cruisers out there.
A nice, comfy bench and a bimini top, a healthy big block and tight pump.

Ron, on these types of hulls, what would be a good pump setup? How bout a shoe/rideplate setup? Ive seen droop snoot with a place diverter setups...

Personally I wouldn't get to carried away with the set up on a cruiser.
Our Advantage has a shoe/ride plate and a diverter. We ran 72mph (GPS) with a mild motor.
The Rogers is a project I'm working on for my daughter and her husband. It will get a stock motor as he is new to jet boats.

X2...... Most cruisers aren't going to run big numbers without overly stupid power. Everyone wants more but it's cruisers are cheap and easy, consistent. I would say get another go fast toy if you want much more than 70's.

My Nordic 20' cruiser is a pretty god candidate for exactly what you talking about. I grew up on this boat, and since I have owned it, have turned it into a hotrod with around 500+hp and it does great. A lot of fun, and a head turner. It's no Schiada by any means, but my version

Never dyno'd the motor, but it turned an A impeller 5300 rpm's.
Motor was Edelbrocks Performer Plus package with closed chambered heads.
Put together by Meziere, they do drag car stuff.
Forgot to mention it had some bottom work when it was regelled.
