I bought a 77 sabre jet at the end of last summer and I wanted to know what everyone thinks about them.My RPMs are at 4000 and im doing about 65mph with from what I understand is a stock 460 with a stock 12jc.is that about right?would like to know  more about the thing how much power it can handle is there any flaws in these hulls and what can i do to make it launch harder.               thanks in advance

I like the Sabre Jets, my buddy has a 1980 Sabre jet daycruiser, a couple years ago I put in a new floor and went through the 460 Packajet with a JE pump, Nicely built boat, the gelcoat is still beautiful for a 30 year old boat...

The thing is, I think you need to take a look at your tach. 65 MPH at only 4,000 RPM is more than a little impressive, probably turning closer to 4,600 or only moving about 55-60MPH..

The only deficiency that I found on the Sabre Jet was the bottom side of the deck had a layer of particle board laminated into it, it was coming apart and needed to be redone. I had to laminate plywood in place of it, a lot of work, but well worth  it in the end.,

You can't believe your data with the equipment and methods your using.  Don't know how good the rest of the boat is also. A stuffer is racing gear and not realy nessisary if you're going to the river to make "roosts" A good loader would do you more good.  First check the motor over, leak down, timing, fuel system. Check your tach. If the motor's good and you don't have a big impeller sounds like your tach is not right.  If it was my money in a new boat I'd start with a good pump check and if you realy want to make room for improvements later I'd redo the intake with a plate and shoe, put a split bowl on it and check the tolerences.  If there is partical board in the deck that needs to go per GT. Are stringers full length? and check the bottom for a "hook". Good pump, no hook, full stringers, no sign of stress cracks in the gel?  Now you can hit it with HP as you wish (I'd still keep that under 650-700) Jetovator for fun? Sure why not!

I think Its a 1/4 stringer.The stringers stop right in back of the rear seat.

Buy a full stringer boat....

But seriously, for the amount of money and time it would take to do a conversion, you could have upgraded to a better hull...Absolut huge amount of work, and truthfully, I would not recommend doing it unless the hull was obtained for say...Free and all of the wood needed to be replaced.

A reputable shop would charge in excess of $3500 for such an undertaking.

I am not using my boat this year, and maybe next (I have three boats   ) If you want to go 80+, I have the hull for you. My White Trash has seen 85 MPH with approx.680 BBC horsepower, it weighs very little and has full mahogany stringers....It does get "light" and I have added a droop snoot to try and improve it. (it used to lift the tail)...
