I would assume the ribs are there to help eliminate flex in the back of the seat.

I suggest filling the ribs in your mold and create a ribless bucket. Then take that bucket and add some quality ribs that are straight to it. Maybe use a clay to make them. Then create a new mold with straight ribs.

take the previous guys work and make it better, i say.

take no shortcuts and it will be a quality product in the end.

If ALL the seats have crooked ribs, and it isn't on purpose (maybe it gives the appearance of being straight when mounted at the slight angle of the boat?

) probably not

fix it and people will buy them just to have straight seats. I know I would buy the straight one at a comprable price if given the choice. Especially if you advertise it that way. my .02

Marc and Rod are the only two people I've ever heard talk about crooked ribs . If your selling them cheap enough , Another fourty years will pass and no one will notice . I really wouldn't even worry about it .

I'm thinking of maybe getting a few seats out that match the competition's (just to get some freakin' cash), then make a few rib-less seats, then some with straight ribs, then some matching back seats, then ...

I'll have to talk with Marc about it and see what he thinks, so far he's sponsored ($) the whole project.

The original bucket seats like those were built using a small oil drum as the plug cut down to the shape needed for the seat and then modified from there, that's where the 2 'ribs' came from. Well let me go back, I'm not sure they were the 'first' ones done, but many years ago I saw a set tooled up like that, but they didn't hav crooked ribs.

Jim at Cyclone still offers the buckets and a back seat too.

I designed and tooled up a bench seat for a guy that was going to build a set of molds from it, and my idea was to make the mold adjustable so it had inserts in the back of it so the width could be adjusted to fit the hull. I think I built 3 different inserts, longer in 1 intervals, so the mold was a 3 piece deal instead on a one piece. It was pretty cool, and had 2 ribs in it as well but like a few others have done through the years, he screwed me outa some money, so I destroyed the plug...infront of him too. lol It was almost worth it to see the look on his face.

I'm having a tough time getting Marc over here and then actually working on the seats, or working on anything really. I can't blame him 'cause I wish I was in his shoe's, although they are too small for me. (Next thing you know he'll be over here complaining that I won't work on the seats.

marcsrollin and I are thinking about re-starting this project up. I'm looking for a general consenses of this forum if you think you'd pay $80 a seat - assuming you were looking for seats in the first place.

Like I said in my PM to you, I'd like two of the ribless seats in white. I think I probably have to more sold also. I'm sure if you posted on Powerboats, River Dave's website, dragboats.com and Texas hot boats you would have more interests and potential customers. I constantly see folks on these site looking for seats just like I am. Let me know if you decide to make a few seats.

I'm just grillin ya bro . I really do like how they have the high sides on them though . I actually took the seat pad insert on mine to make me sit lower in the seat . Alot more secure feeling .

We dropped the ball on that project a long time ago. We never even finished the final touches on the mold.

But there is a strong possibility we will get the ball rolling in the near future. We will be sure to update this thread when we do.

No one's fault on who specifically dropped the ball as I didn't even have my eyes open to see who dropped it.

The amount of time needed to spend and the amount of $$$ required for the investment vs. end product selling price isn't adding up for me. Marc seem's to be suggesting otherwise. He's got a much higher IQ and I'm older and wiser. LOL I haven't been able to find the back seat I'm looking for and one of my front buckets is cracked so... $:-\$
