Holding down engine cover / sun deck

What ideas do you guys have to hold down an engine cover / sun deck? My dads old cruiser used a contraption that looked like it came off a car to hold the hood down. Had a handle hidden to release it.

What other ways have you guys seen this done?

I've seen a couple held down with really gnarly velcro.. Don't know how well it worked though

my dads daycruiser had 2 vinyl straps that were screwed down with 2 button snaps to the hatch.

I used a SS hatch latch with thru bolt arm. I made a plate on the hatch side to keep the integrity of wood. A fail safe is the ski pole just in case I hit a big wake or forgot to lock it...this one might work for you mounted to hatch either center front or one on each front corner with a plate of some kind on the fixed side to latch onto. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GEM-4252-STAINLESS-STEEL-LOCKING-LATCH-W-O-KEY-PLATE-3-MARINE-BOAT-/231199468377

Just bought these. Quick-latch.com can hold up to 600lbs a piece. Look really good. Set up the same way as hood pins.

I wish I found these before I built my interior... the locking ones are top notch. Post some install pics when you can.

You could mount the latches in the back seat and put the strikers in the lid and find a clean car door handle to put in the top of the back seat with pull rods to pop the latches or do one latch in the middle and use a choke cable to pop it or go all out and get some door actuator and wire them in to a switch on the dash

nothing, when i made mine i made it so tight that when upolstery was put on it damn near doesn't shut, and when it is down it i have to stand on the back seat and pull really hard to get it up...

thanks for posting those quick latch deals....pretty trick. I think I'll go with those.

Borrowed a friends boat once and it had the straps from under that pulled through the rear bench and snapped it (like kaotic described)....well i forgot to fasten them and the lid flew up while towing it....broke the hydrolic lifts and cut the upholstery when it flipped over and hit the outdrive. I did this TWICE. 2nd time was after I had it fixed it the first time.

I am just looking for a stupid proof way of dealing with this without the possibility of forgetting to strap it down.

Is this a big thing ? I have a hatch over my motor as well but mine goes down even with the back seat so I don't see the wind pulling it up while towing/driving down river

this one mates with the back seat creating the top roll in the back of the seat.

I am sure with the wind traveling straight down between the front seats and hitting the back seat, it will create some lift. All it takes is a little lift from a bump in the road and poof....its off like a kite.

Do what I did.

Buy a 12VDC satellite dish positioner....

They are stupid strong, just be sure to make an access with a quick release pin in case of electrical problems. These work sweet.

Just a double pole, double throw switch and a fuse and you can open the engine cover from the dash.... PIMP!

The one on the Carerra is a short little bitch, only uses 3" or 4", but the hatch I built only weighs 19 pounds...

The one on the Crusader cruiser is like a couple feet, the hatch weighs more than me...LOL
