I'm working out bugs on a recent jet boat purchase. It's a 1977 kachina 18' with jg pump, 496 BBC. Was on the lake running pretty hard when pump lost bite and picked up a mean vibration. I took pump apart and found a nylon wear ring that had came loose. What's the deal with this wear ring?

What you see is all that was in there. I kinda wondered the same thing myself. I wondered if it was one of those ultimate wear rings. I have a lot to learn.

Well it doesn't seem all that ultimate. Im going back to a standard Berkeley wear ring. This pump also has a dominator impeller in it. 

Check your impeller. Your wear ring is probably welded too it.  If that’s the case that would be the isolator ring used to hold the wear ring in.
