I am currently running a 396 with about 400+ HP with Aa impeller. What would I gain or lose with a, a/b, or b? Not a drag boat just a nice lake boat wanting to go a little faster
The question you pose is too open ended.
Personally I feel an AA is too tall for a 396.
What rpm does it run at now? What hull? Where does the motor make the assumed 400 ponies? What do you do with the boat?
If you cut the impeller down, about the only thing I guarantee you will gain is some rpm. That being said if you can make another 50 or more hp at the new rpm, you might see a couple more miles an hour.
If you are thinking you will pick up several miles an hour by cutting the impeller, I am afraid that you will be extremely disappointed.
Can you describe your set up a little more?
Hull weight, where are the tanks? What ignition, carburetor(s)?
Do you have a Place Diveter, loader, shoe, ride plate?
And the most important question, how thick is your wallet?
