so i finally got my winger dialed in and took it out yesterday and ran 88mphs on gps at 6300rpms and when i put it on the trailer and started to wipe her down i noticed how warm my bowl was i have a berk 12jg with a stainless b impellor and i always check the fluid,is this a potencial problem ?  have any of you guys noticed that your bowl is hot or warm or cold when u pull it out of the water?

no im pretty sure it shoots out father than the bowl,my wife tells me im a hypocondreact or something like that,maybe im just over thinking this

This is common if your taking the boat right out of the water after a run and the engine is up to temp..The reason is the water from the motor runs back out of the engine and back through the pump when you take the boat out of the water.

Otherwise you may have a cavitation issue if the pump was warm with it still in the water....Doubt it though.

On some race boats I have played with we had an overheat issue while idling and the steam used to blow backwards through the pump after pulling it from the river....It is really cool to see steam blowing out of the nozzle....    It just breaks a lot of stuff to do so. 

The bowl bearings are completely surrounded by water, so to feel the heat from there, something would have truly had to have gone wrong.....  

edit; Willing to bet the pump was hotter on the left side...

the guy who had the boat before me had grease in it,when i got the boat i checked the bowl fluid by pumping 90wt into the bowl thats how i found he ran grease in it

I think you mighta answered your own question. Nothing wrong with grease in a bowl, nor 90 wgt, BUT the two will never mix or be a good thing at all. Also, is this after a long hard run? I mean like a couple of hours of constant running or just after normal short runs?

Ray, no disrespect brother, but the bowl bearings on a Berkeley are completely surrounded by water....No way in hell you could feel that heat in the bowl, no friggen way..

What you felt was water from the engine....Seen it a thousand times before....

Oh I know, I was just thinking maybe, just maybe, his pump was pretty damn tight and he wasn't running it long and hard enough to get the grease to liquify and maybe that's what he was feeling. 

Just a thought,

i wasnt running for hours but i did 2 or 3 passes and the heat was more on the bottom of the pump less the top of the pump

Ding ding ding.....Heat rises. How would the bottom of the pump get hot? easy, hot water running into it from the motor....Mystery solved.
