Diverter and nozzle
« on: July 31, 2015, 01:26:41 PM »
When you put a place diverter on does the place diverter need to be machined out and running a tuned nozzle along with the rest of the pump being tricked out to make a difference in performance?

BAM!

Not really.

For the most part it is a plug and play deal.

The reasons for a tunable nozzle has more to do with adjusting the velocity to match hull drag. (The less parasitic drag the smaller you can get away with) with the smaller nozzle you can get more exit velocity and bowl pressure.

This is only theory and should be treated on a trial and error basis.

The Place Diverter by itself adds performance because of the ability to "trim" out the hull.

Are you saying the Diverter added nothing to the performance of your set up? (I would find this very difficult to believe).

No my cousin is wanting to put one on his Tahiti berk jet.  He had herd that and I didn't think it was correct but still fairly new to this fun expensive habit!

BAM!

Hydraulic is the way to go in my mind, just depends on how much money you want to spend.  Manual will work just fine in most cases and is almost always the cheaper route with less things to fail over time.

BAM!

I like manuals.  Just because it's simpler and fewer moving parts.

My last jet had a manual with an override pedal. Awesome.

Depending on how heavy that Tahiti is, a nozzle insert can actually hurt performance.

BAM!

For the ease of use, push a button to trim up or down. Button can be on your steering wheel instead of reach down for a handle. It's really just a preference, both do the job.

how does this override pedal work?

I built a slip collar for the cable end in the handle and had a secondary cable pull against a spring loaded slider. You could pedal down the diverter with the left foot. I loved it.

I have the parts to build another one, but the Southwind does not have a Diverter. I'm trying to find the funds to put White Trash back together.

It works virtually the same as a Vee drive override pedal.

i follow your concept.

im not familiar with how the pedal works on v-drives.    i just took it that the driver had another pedal that controlled the plates on the back...the whole time tho, not as an override.

so, with your set up....you set your diverter handle at what ever level....and your pedal would go from that point to full travel(or whatever limit youve set)....bringing the nozzle in up position...??
so this frees up your hands....no need to make constant adjustments with your hands....(sounds interesting.....i like)

am i close? :sly:

I like hydraulic because you have more range to stop and move it than manual being fixed stoping points. With my hydraulic you can really feel the boat free up the most speed of the hull jmho.

Manual all the way. Less money, less parts to break, faster adjustments and just easier to use all the way around.

I've never run a hydraulic so my opinion is not valid, but with my manual, I also felt it free the hull up, and very noticeable difference from no PD. great addition to my old Southwind. I've seen issues with hydraulic as there are more moving parts. As for reaching down to adjust it, I prefer manual cars over automatic, so not a problem at all...

They both have there place. Personally I like the manual diverter for a river boat. Hot rod or race boat hydraulic/ Air Diverter is what you want. PS those Bennett pumps that comes with the Diverter are piles of crap
