ARE THE RUMORS TRUE ABOUT JACUZZI PUMPS LIMITING OR WASTING HORSEPOWER VS BERKS OR OTHER PUMPS?

Although they (Jacuzzis) don't have some of the after market readily available hardware and mods available to them that some of the other "Berkeley" type jets do, the Jacuzzis are very good performing jets and respond well to simple inexpensive internal mods , If there is a down side it would be the YJ jet which does not take well to added horse power (much north of 300) Jacuzzies came OEM in dozens of manufacturers boats back in the day including but not limited to Hondos Tom

its really easy to tell which jacuzzi you have... when you look at the pump(outside of transome) there will be 4 bolts hooking up to the bowl... that is a wj.. and the one that have no bolts is the yj..

i hve the wj and can say that i am pleased with it.. although i never really had any berkleys... on my ford 390 i go about 50-55 on flat water.. and im in the process of adding a jet-o-vator.. i heard they help alot..

if you got any questions ask.. everyone knows alot of crap...  O0

OK, I WILL CHECK IN THE AM. I'VE JUST HEARD NEGATIVE STUFF ABOUT THEM SO I THOUGHT I WOULD ASK THE GURUS. WORKS FINE FER ME. THE ONLY THING I HAVE NOTICED IS GREASE COMING OUT OF THE PART OF THE PUMP THAT MOUNTS TOGETHER WHERE THE U JOINTS ARE. IT SEEPS OUT FROM THE BOLTS THAT HOLD IT TOGETHER.

The Bearing cavity on all these jets need only to be about 2/3 full to operates correctly , most everyone wants to give a shot or two with regualrity eventually the bearing cavity becomes overfull and the grease weeps out of every crack and crevice , overgreasing will also shorten bearing life too Tom

MAKES SENSE. THANKS. I HAVE ONLY PUT A COUPLE SHOTS IN EACH ZIRC ONCE AND BEEN OUT A GOOD HAND FULL OF TIMES. ALL I HAVE ON MY PUMP IS 2 ZIRCS, NO OTHER PORTS FOR LIQUIDS. I'VE HEARD ITS WATER COOLED? I'M NOT SURE THE BEST WAY TO KEEP UP ON THIS?

You're gonna be fine with the Jacuzzi WJ. I have one. Several Berks as well that I prefer, but it performs VERY well, kindof impressed with it, really. Friend of mine just bought a Hondo with the AT energizer kit that works well also.

Don't let the horror stories from us bench racers get to ya. The cost vs the benefit of changing to a Berk, and THEN building the Berk to run like the wind? not worth it. Throw less money at the Jacuzzi and it'll perform.

first and foremost forum etiquette, when you use your caps it appears that you are yelling

so once again please turn off the caps

for what it's worth ::) i had a w/j fresh from cyclone speed and marine in a hondo and my 460 turned the impeller 51-5200 rpm. i took the motor out and put it in my liberty with a fresh berk from cylcone and it turned the exact same rpm.  mph is really irrelivent because the hondo was a turd.

just my experience

Right on Ralph. My boat only turns 41-4200 rpms. It has roller rockers and a cam in there, but my buddy lupo smoked me when we raced. He has a berk, and as far as I know, stock 454 with a high rise intake. So I believed the rumors about jacuzzi's??? What gives?

could be the hull you have, and the rpm's is pretty low, not sure but that sounds like 300hp worth of rpm.

on second thought, it mite be a serious miss match engine combo
