Hey Marcel, berkeley tools work on the Legend, good stuff IMO, basically a Berkekey, but more updated (all my stuff is from the '70's so its all Berk.) Tools you should need with a few exeptions are probably in your tool box.
I dont know what all the other guys here do, but I can tell you I always pull the bowl and remove the impeller nut before disconnecting the motor, saves having to use a spline wrench and seems less damaging to the shaft.
Everytime I see someone pull a pump apart the first time the hammers come out of the tool box right away, leave the hammers for working on outboards.

You will need a quality puller for the impeller, once the impeller is out of the way your home free. always use new zerk fittings, clean everything up, and use new packing material.
After she's all done, use a quality grease and stick with it, cross contamination is the biggest cause of early bearing failure in a pump next to moisture, some of the exotic lubes available don't mix with others.
As far as putting grease in to see if things quiet up, it may quiet up for a few minutes and if it does get quiet, the bearing is toast, just my .02c though...
I agree with Tom on the leaving stuff hooked up, less crap to put together...
