Thinking about having my Berk. re powder coated. Does anybody know anyone in Orange County that does this? What I should expect to pay? Advantages/disadvantages. Reason being....my place diverter looks brand new and the rest of the pump does not. Kinda bugs me.

Just make sure to remind them not to coat inside threads or where your diverter or steering and mating surfaces of the pump. Some places will even put a small round pad where bolts etc. go so it will keep threads clean and so you wont crack and scratch the finish around the bolt hole when you put it back in the boat and torque it down

Poder coating is nice but my dad and I have always just painted ours with automotive paint. Looks nice and is not that much to do.

I did a good job of primer coating with a lacquer spray can, then got some appliance white, it was the whitest I could find and gave it 2 or 3 coats.  Let dry for a couple of days and then hand brushed the Berkeley name back on.  The Place Diverter which is powder coated has a different white when put together.  When the paint gets bad, I can strip it off and re-do it for about $20.00.

Check Orange county sandblasting - They are right at the RR tracks in old town orange - on either La Vita or Palmyra just west of glassel.

I know they do anodizing, I think they do p'coating.

Thank you all for your input. I just want that shiny white look back. IMO if Tom thinks its a bad idea than it probably is. When I get the boat back home in a couple of weeks I will take another look at it. I might just be picky.This may turn out to be an after summer project. I dont want to have problems in the middle of the project and get hosed out of some nice boating weekends.

How long does the rattle can last?

I guess it all depends on how you care for your pump.  I think you can buy epoxy in rattle can and that should hold up better.

Routine maint., cleanings, etc.... a year, 2, longer?

OC,  Look at it this way.  If you get a scratch in the finish, you can smooth it out and hit it with a couple of coats of rattle can epoxy, let dry and you're good to go until the next ding.  Powder coating would be more difficult to repair.  You might even be able to hit the surface with a 3M Scotch Bright pad and then run a buffer over it and bring back the shine.
