Pump removal
« on: December 30, 2012, 04:18:13 PM »
I may have a line on an old boat with a complete Berkeley  pump on it with a diverter....maybe a couple of old 455 heads and misc parts for 150 bucks!

Question, my brother in
Law will buy it and disassemble, since the hull is shot, what would be optimum way to yank the pump? Chainsaw or Sawzall .... Anyone ever do this??  Any tips?

Chainsaw or sawzall are very effective pump removal tools...........ask anyone who's had a boat stolen........ :sly:

The diverter should fit on your JG pump no problem, but you'll probably need a steeting extension.

Geometry should be real close going from a c to split with diverter install. Might just need a slight adjustment with steer tube.

Is it just me or wouldnt it just be easyer to remove it by taking the 8 or 10 bolts out of the transom adapter and the 8 or 10 bolts out of the intake  ::)
and no cutting of fiberglass that s*** sucks  :o
i could be wrong.....

I dont know...Ive never removed one myself.

Thats why I asked....i'm trying to keep my brother in law happy as its a favor for me. H'e NOT a boat guy by any stretch so I was looking for an easy removal method. I'm leaving it in his hands, but I will tell him unbolting it is a definite option...I know fibers will fly and theres that "itchy" thang when that happens.

Don't use a chainsaw...the fiberglass will kill your bar and chain quickly.  Sawzall works best.

After thinking about it, the Sawzall sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the input ....

imao when you cut "sawzaw" or "chainsaw" anything out of a boat...that tells me "IT'S STOLEN"
evan if the hull is junk....you could get $100 $150 from a salvage yard.....if its cut up you can NOT !

That was my first thought too!

It's listed on eBay , my brother in law is going over to pull hull reg and ID numbers and take photos and run em before I bid.

I live in Mississippi the boat is in
Oregon, the engine is shot and has been sitting for 5 years (says the seller)
I really just want the diverter...my BIL will scrap the rest... If its legit then I get a deal on a diverter and an extra pump to trade sell etc... Hope it's not hot, and if it is, the cops will have then info and the owner will get his boat back!

If you have some sort of droop or nozzle spacer then a steer extension would be needed but not for your deal even with a wedge. The steer pin is going to be almost in the same location. The mounting on the diverter compensates to stock with no or little adjustment of steer tube.

I've never known rotted wood and fiberglass to have any scrap value

I have no droop nor extension on my JG so that's cool.  Thx

Junk is junk.... The hull is trashed.  My BIL will evaluate and either junk
Or repair and sell the Trailer..... block heads metal / send me the pump and controls and gauges misc hardware  ( if worth it)
if I can get it for what he's asking. Even with shipping cost it's a deal.

If you got the time, cut the hull up in small enough pieces to fit in trash can for your weekly pick up and after a few weeks its all gone.

Ok.  Here's a better shot of the pump/diverter.
Anyone see anything missing / damaged on the diverter?

The control is there also .  Boat not stolen.

remove cable then pull connector where it attaches to the bowl correct?

theres a ton of good documents here on CP Performance's website: http://www.cpperformance.com/t-installation_instructions.aspx

They are under the section Berkeley Jet Drives & More

It's not really hard, once you start digging into it, you will get a hang of how it pieces together. It might even help taking pictures along the way so you know how to put it back together.
