Took some video of mine this past weekend, and it does seem to drag a tiny bit in the water. Enough to make a difference idk.

But something else happened. My Forward/reverse cable broke. so instead of wasting a day on the water. I pulled the reverse bucket off and ran it.

I did change impellers at the same time (see my other thread)

but something i learned, was my holeshot improved greatly with the new impeller/no bucket. No reason why the impeller would have made a difference. Im curious if the no bucket might have helped. I would assume the holes for the pivot pins would leak off a lot of pressure.

What do you think?

Ill try to get the videos uploaded tomorrow

if I'm reading your post correctly you change the impeller and removed the bucket? Just the impeller change would have made a huge difference. Correct?

Yes. But it shouldn't have. Both impellers are in brand new condition.

Differences between the two.

Old impeller is a B- American turbine Aluminum that B1 cut down for me, it was also machiend to set the clearances at .030"
New impeller is a box stock Berkeley C impeller. With much "looser" clearances. Was put in to test top end/crusie and possibly have the AT cut down. But i REALLY dont want to take it apart with how its running right now

I just want to know why! By all means it should not make a difference. Unless maybe theres an angle difference or something with the AT impeller.

Its frustratign

Steve-

My experiance has been the opposite-

Berk A2 impy pulled to 5050 (loose pump)
American Turbine AA pulled it down to 4900, 4950 in cooler weather (.012"/side, .017" f-to-r)
American turbine has a sh*tload more holeshot, vs. the Berk A2
(same bowl, diverter, etc)

Very interesting findings.

You have to know how that is. Just doesnt make sense.

Im almost wondering if i didnt install my bowl correctly or something last time.

I cant see the no revers bucket causing an issue. But maybe. Fuk i dont knwo

looks like the AT impellers are machined at a 33.5* angle and the berkeley is at a 56.5* angle...

wonder if that has anything to do with it

Thats all where the dumb end of the tape measure is...

90* - 33.5* = 56.5*. Make sense?

When we cut an A or smaller, the angle is always 33-degrees to the shaft centerline.  Most of the aluminum A impellers that come in to get cut are 30-degrees to the centerline.  A 30-degree A impeller is bigger than a 33-degree A impeller, meaning that the vanes are longer and therefore absorb more power.  33-degrees makes the ends of the vanes basically square.

heres the video i promised. There are 3 nitrous passes in this video. I think the chute is dragging quite a bit.

Also looks like i need a new nozzle o ring. The engine doesnt like to idle with the timing backed out. You can hear that too

That is a cool video, so different. Dont get to see that view, EVER.

Little bit of drag, but damn your engine sounds good. Except for idle, lol.

yeah she dont like idling at 24*. Since i didnt know where timing was now with the new ignition controller. I was very conservative on the timing. I think i can bump it up to about 28 on the bottle. Need to do a test and tune trip

Let me rephrase. She doesnt like idling at 24* when ive already set the idle pretty low at 30*. I was able to get it to idle about 750-850 rpm at 30* with this new carb. I could probably dial it in to idle with the retard on, but i didnt want to waste time on it.
