I am currently running a loader on my boat. I also read that you only need a loader if your boat runs over 65mph. My beat GPS is 65mph and thats with race gas! My question is would or could I see a bit more out of it if i were to run a stock rock grate? Maybe it's loading to much or causing to much drag. Thanks in advance.

The  loader does a couple of things. first off, it directs water flowing into the intake to a specific area of the impeller. some direct it to the top, some to the bottom or both.

if the loader has long ramps that extend past the keel of the boat then it also scoops up water as the boat runs along.

if the loader has the center section of it welded shut, that is called a blocker and this prevents water from flowing through that area and this does two things; first it decreases the flow into the intake, which will increase engine rpm slightly and second, it provides a small amount of tail lift.

would you go faster without it? that depends on whether or not your intake is loaded properly. the word "properly" has a few different meanings depending on who you ask and its a can of worms. My best advice is to borrow several loaders and go to the lake and try them.

loaders are like camshafts, there are hundreds of designs, with different lenght ramps, different ramp depths and angles. which one is best is a trial and error deal.
