Major thanks to Ralph and Pops (Brunt Racing) for making it possible to do this. Without your help, there was no way I would have been able to get the boat running in time.

I have talked with Jerry ( V-Drive Video) about filming our races. This is going to be a great race and an important part of history. We need him out there at the races. His videos are not only awesome but they are the only way we have to preserve the history that we are making. We need to purchase some of the videos that he has already done for us and show him how important he really is to our racing endeavours. This is just another way to make our classes grow. He works very hard at each event for us. I, for one, use each and every video as a boat tuning tool and as well as a very enticing promotional tool to help secure sponsorship. It costs him more than $600 to attend each event, we need to somehow help lower those costs for him. If all the Jet racers put in $60 each per race, we would cover his costs and have him out there working for us. He would be covering all areas of Jet racing history, from the actual races, to the pits, the after parties and each driver/team interview. Let's preserve history in the making.

You mean an air pump on your block to creat negative pressure, make sure you don't suck all the oil out your motor.

I think the High Torque starts start about $200 and go to about $300, thats why its a good idea to eliminate all other problems first. You don't wanna drop two to three bills to have the new starter just go click click click...

How long has it been since its started?
If you pulled the plugs out and put a wrench on the front of the motor does it rotate fairly easily?
Check that your getting spark?
The biggest thing to be careful of is a motor thats seized and putting a fresh starter and battery to it you might accidentally bend a rod or hurt something in your rotating assemble.
You might want to spin your oil pump with a drill motor. Before and after checking your oil. Make sure afterwards you don't have a milkshake. Sometimes you have condensation in the block. If the motor is hard to turn over by hand I have seen some people put Marvel Mystery Oil in the combustion chamber to help free it up.
Once you know it spins free, you know your batteries are good, you have plenty of oil / lubrication and your getting spark. I guess the starters all thats left.
As far as the Panther goes, I have no clue on a Panter specific but I have always been told never to run any pumps out of the water. I hear a majority of wear occurs due to running dry. I'd check with Tom @ JBP, I hear he even created a Panter Conversion kit thats really nice and works well.

I have checked with a reputable chrome and they wanted rigth around $700.00 to re-chrome a set of Bassett Headers. Here is the kicker! They would not guarantee the work for several reasons, one being their are used and contaminated two that they are in an enviroment with water, three they get hot and so on and so forth.
If you are going to take them someplace and get them chromed find out what steps they take in the preparation. And long before you take them down inspect them for soft or weak areas, I'd hate to spend any money on any parts, just for them to fall apart shortly their after.
A new set of Bassetts are around a $1000. give or take so its no small investment, dollar for dollas I'd rather by a new set for the additional $300 than on a re-chrome job.
If you can get them jethot coated for $300.00 and don't mind the color compared to chrome that sounds like a deal to me.
Another coating very close to Chrome and heat resistant is the same that Edelbroch puts on their products called Dura-Shine. A place in OC called Specialized Coatings does this same finish. I don't know how much they want to prep and do a set of headers but it may be worth checking out.

Maguires has a new product out that comes in an aerosol can, it drys clear with no residue and is supposed to last a "long time" its self leveling etc, I am not sure how good it is. I do have a can but have yet to use it.
I got it thinking I was gonna coat a few parts that were polished and keep a couple parts that are polished without any coating together and see how they do out in the elements together.

Gotcha on the motor magic, how longs he think to finish the build? How is the rest of the boat, I am sure you gotta flush the fuel tanks and maybe change out some gauges?

« on: November 10, 2007, 08:56:24 PM »when you speak of a committee....what exactly are you referring to? the CJ class will be running under the inboard committee. We have no say in that....it comes from APBA....we cant run our own committee.
If the APBA has no committee for this group yet, find out what it takes to make a committee and get knowledgeable people to help form the committee. If you could get either people who have raced comp jet before, or people who work in the marine indusrty specificly people who actually work with jet boats. Even if they are shops that compete with each other or manufacture similar items.
For example if this was off road truck racing you might have a member of the committee from each of these business.... Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, BFG, Goodyear, Toyo, King, RaceRunner, Rancho.
These people know these products, and even thou they compete with each other they can help form guidelines for the sport. This help everyone out because when one manufacturer creates and item and the others are involved in the same sport it may cause them to tweak or modify their parts. As the technology progresses, the parts become better and hopefully sales go up for everyone. Its a win win all around.
The marine industry is very small as it is and everyone pretty much already knows or knows of everyone else. Getting them involved in this end of the racing not only cycles knowledge and technology our way, but helps to generate sales in their direction. Also if a companys parts are seen failing time and time again while racing that is seen by the consumer, and hopefully that gets them back to the drawing board to find out why they are having these problems before it affects their sales.
I see you already have some great people on here that help out and give good advice like Tom at Jet Boat Performance. And I am sure you have many others too, I am just fairly new here. I am not here to promote my business or sale anything I want to be anonomous like that. If someone needs help with a part or how to rigg something I am more than happy to help out, cause we are all here to have fun and share ideas.
