Jet Pumps / Re: Hydraulic Place Diverter Pump "rebuild"
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:50:39 PM »
Lemme dig around tonight Jon. I have quite a few of them around from/for the Shrimpin boat (uses 5 of them). I think I remember one has a cracked reservoir tank. Might be able to make 1 good one from yours and this one (I have a replacement for that one coming from Riverdad........someday.......)....... :sly:

Imron is good chit, and not that hard to get your hands on. most auto paint supplys still cary it.

X2!! I painted a HS buddie of mines '67 GTO in silver with that stuff back in 1988. 23 years and 65000 miles later it looks as good now as it did the day we did it.

This is what had originally been in the boat and it was different so I kept it.  Just try'n to stay nostalgic and diamond stitching is common enough that I didn't want to blend in.

Mines the only one I'm aware of around these parts with diamond stitching, but you'rs is DEFINATELY different! Can't stop looking at it..........getting impure thoughts now on my big boat........ :o

Where'd you get that done at?

« on: March 21, 2011, 08:20:40 AM »
the guy bought the boat, could not get the right paper work for it and pulled it out before scrapping the boat.

i am having some crazy thoughts, someone kick me...  im thinking of putting the heads from this new motor onto my short block, i know the piston has some cosmetic damage but i have measured from the deck to the top edge of the piston and compared to the other cylinders, and the rod isnt bent, thats a plus...  This way i keep my marine block, forged pistons and i can get back on the water and save my money to buy some parts over the summer and build a new motor next winter, how far fetched does that sound guys?

Personally, if you've got it that far down, I'd keep going, pull the block and check everything. Nothing but gaskets, rod nuts and a little more time if all is well.    ;)

But it CAN be done your way successfully..............

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Carb CFMs and displacement..
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:57:28 AM »
Adding to the poo flingin', IMHO vac sec's would work good on a TR....Especially if shooting a little over on bore size to begin with, venturi selection may be tricky... :-\

GT

I can fully second and support that statement with actual performance..........

Other than that, every original boat I've owned, and there's satellite pics on here to prove this, came originally with a 750 vac sec'y carb. Probably for warranty reasons, but one quick way to warm them up is an 850 CFM minimum with no other changes. No matter 454, 455 or 460. Just my experience to get a few RPM's and actually fuel economy out of them.

Throw a solid build on the engine with a good cam, I ran twin 750's with no problems. The thing with tunnel rams is almost as, and somewhat more complex, than running a blower.  The sheer volume inside the tunnel ram intake is a vacuum nightmare, IMO, with a single carb. I don't care if it's vac secondary or mechanical, vacuum is vital with either. the slightest vacuum leak is detrimental. Now, with NO vacuum leaks, either carb is equal, in my experience, Mechanical or Vacuum.

With a single carb tunnel ram, provided the build is solid, and the cam is there to support it, personally, I'd be running an 1150 dominator on it, or at minimum a 950...........

Absolutely fantastic news, Ralph!

I know what you mean Brad. I became one right after I found out Cindy's lung, kidneys and liver were used for used for transplant patients on the list.  ;)

On that note, I don't think my liver could be used for anything more than a door stop or wheel chock, but the rest of me is fine!

My, and the kids, Prayers and Thoughts are with you and your family! Godspeed to a speedy recovery!

X2 on Joe Hunt.......As Nordie said, his names on it, might cut you a break on that ordeal. Mag rebuilds on a Vertex are easily 5 bills and more.   :banghead:

I've had zero problems with Mallory Unilites. Though I run them with Hyfire 6AL boxes and Procoils. MSD HEI that was on one boat gave me similar fits that left a bad taste in my mouth for HEI systems back when GM first came out with them. It's since been replaced with a Unilite/6AL/Procoil setup........although I DID run a Vertex Mag on it for a bit first, just for chits and giggles..... >:D

That MSD dizzy's still floating around here somewhere..........wheel chock as far as I'm concerned........
