Right on!  My old man just did his first build on a family owned '53 (from the day it left the lot!)  Although he ditched the straight-8 with it's 113hp!

So what would it really take to swap a carbed 454 for one of these?  Is it as simple as plug-and-play?

Thanks,
L/C

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Cam recomendations
« on: January 16, 2008, 09:48:57 AM »
I've posted the same question before.  Picking a cam turned out to be like guessing the number of gumballs in the gumball machine.  Lot of good ideas, but never knowing if it would be "right."  I guess I have another strike because of the size/weight of my boat.  I'm still sitting on the fence for this one.

If anyone has a suggestion -I'm all ears!  As it sits now: 454, 9.0:1 C/R, 4850rpm w/"A", vaccum Q-Jet.  I've got an 800dp waiting to be installed.  Sorry for the thread jack.

The weather says the highs in the 70's, I was thinking the same thing.  Hmmm, I may have to charge up the batteries and take a run for the sun

Ralphs has a killer deal if you want to ski Snow Valley on the cheap!  Buy 8 "Vitamin Water", for about a buck each, and get a free mid-week ticket to Snow Valley.  I rarely go to Snow Valley but after it dumped snow this last week it could be a helluva deal.  Enjoy!

Zesty Italian is good on chicken!

A bit of a trade secret... If you eat boneless skinless chicken breasts (hell, about all I eat), throw them on the grill straight from the freezer.  They'll stay juicy and tender vs. dried out!

With football on all day, I've become a bit of a post whore   ;D

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / How long between oil changes?
« on: January 06, 2008, 03:20:34 PM »
Reading the thread about installing a remote oil filter got me thinking; how often do you change your oil?

If you're tearing down your engine after a weekend of racing -it makes sense that it happens more often than the average user... but what about the rest of us?  So my last change was less than 30 hours of run time between changes.  Too long, too short?  I have a 10 qt. pan and two filters.    There are tons of variables that can dictate when to change.  I spend lots of time at idle and partial throttle vs. wide open, but never-the-less, what's your rule of thumb???

« on: January 06, 2008, 03:02:44 PM »
Undoubtedly get a Perko switch:  One battery for starting, one battery straight to stereo.

This way you can isolate running the tunes on the beach and still have a battery to get you home.  When you motor switch it to "all" to charge it back up.  The only problem is you'll drop amps if you your beach time is too long putting strain on the amplifiers (lots of heat!.)

Looks like it is down!  Bummer in some ways, not-so-much in others.

Brad, why don't you make 'em provide a pic of their jet before they can be official SCJB members.  Select and kick out some of the riff-raff crap that went on there!  lol

even better... set up a hotboat link here that "rick rolls" em?  Sorry just feeling a bit evil today.

Want to pull it north to elsinore?

Sure... the swampland is only 45 minutes or so from my house.  I'm still waiting for the carb and fuel lines in the mail, hopefully they'll go on this week.  As for the choke, I didn't run the choke on the the Q-jet -never really needed it, and probably won't with the Holley.

I believe it is the Edelbrock Performer.  I'll probably go to San V or El Cap to test it out (east San Diego.)
