My friend just got over this same problem this past weekend!! He pulled and checked carb, all good. He then contacted Mallory and they said change out the coil, he did that, same problem!

It ended up being the wiring to the distributor and coil having bad ends that he couldn't see through the heat shrink tubing. All his time and frustration over a couple $0.10 wiring connectors!

thanks i will give that a shot tonight

the first thing you learn when getting into any motorsport hobby (cars, marine, offroad, etc) is to NOT throw parts at a problem.

does it die when you're easing into it or when you jump on the throttle?  motor stalling at 3k rpms isnt very fun, especially when your wake catches up to you.  does it fire up right away after it dies or does it take a few cranks?  mechanical secondaries or vacuum? HEI ignition?  whats going on with your fuel lines from the tank to the carb?  what diameter hose, any filters, etc.  Can you get it to rev over 3k on the trailer?

Post up some pix of what you're working with.  Where are you located?

It dies both when you ease into it or if you floor it.and the boat fires up right away. it has a holley 650 vacuum secondaries. not sure on ignition but will post a pic.

fuel lines are 3/8 and go from tanks to water/fuel separator to the fuel pump then thru a fuel filter then to carb.

on the trailer it will rev above 3k. and the wierd thing is when i get to the lake i can run around for a while at 4000+ no problems get to the beach hang out for a couple hours and try to go cruz then the boat wont even plane before the motor dies like its running out of gas.

i am located in Garden Grove off the 22 and Valley View.

so I've been dealing with Corona Marine    for a couple of months trying to fix my boat. I took my boat in because the motor would die like it is running out of gas around 3000 RPM. So i was told the problem was do to my carb (witch was just rebuilt) so i said fine fix it. While it was there they also replaced the plugs. I got a call saying it was done, so I picked it up and went straight to the lake. Where it had the exact same problem :banghead:, so we took it back to them that same day and they said it was the fuel pump. so I went out and bought the one he recommended (as they were to busy to work on it). Then took it back out to the lake and what do you know same problem. So I took it back for a third time to them where I was told I needed a new dist and coil, which they wanted me to pay for as it was not anything they worked on and not covered under the warranty. I was a little pissed at that point, 1st you have a 90 day warranty and you don't want to back it, 2nd why wasn't this brought up the first time. So after a couple of back and fourth phone calls we came to an agreement and he replaced the parts. So i got the call saying everything was good to go and guess what SAME PROBLEM   . Now i am out a lot of cash and back at square one. On top off all that they want an additional 200 for me to bring it in so they can test the problem they never fixed. I'm not normally one to complain about things but this is crazy. Just Putting this out there to warn others about there service.

Low voltage to the coil/ ignition. I had it happen to my sw 18 changed everything. Ended up being that

Sent from my iPhone using SoCalJetBoats mobile app

Is there a way to check the voltage while running the boat? Also, if it was electrical wouldn't the boat die instantly and not feel like is running out of gas?

Sounds like everyone is on the right track.  Check all previously stated to rule out/troubleshoot.

Wear ring worn out feels like tranny slip in ur truck

The ignition has been touched so could be issue but sounds like fuel is getting weak flow.  How old are ur tanks are they clean free off debris.  The checks are usually the suspect and should be removed from pick up tubes as someone mentioned.

I had fiberglass tanks found out the hard way about replacing the entire fuel system. I would have clean carb run great a whole weekend next time out clog or restrict carb.  Fixed it I had got new tanks larger lines (no checks) larger pick ups.

Fuel and fire your fire sounds new

The tanks are original but are alum. Also before I started to rebuild the boat i cleaned and flushed both tanks. As for the checks how do i remove them they look to be welded into the tank. thanks four all the help.

How is your fuel pressure?  Can you verify if the carb has fuel in it just after the engine stalls by looking at the accelerator pump shot?  Do not crank the engine or actuate the throttle until you can look down the carb.

What electronic distributor?  Were any of the original ignition parts reused?  Try duplicating the problem wow you have a timing light installed.  Watch the timing light to see if it stops flashing just before the engine stalls.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app

Fuel pressure is about 6.5. And there is fuel in the accelerator pumps. Also i have been unable to duplicate the problem on a trailer. There are no og ignition parts. Ive replace the key, coil, plugs, distributor.

That or you may have an Eletrical\ignition issue?????

But the motor doesnt just stop it feels like its running outa gas and if i play with the throttle when it starts to cut out sometimes it keeps running.

Wear ring in pump worn out? Others with more experience will hopefully chim in but if your wear ring is shot the impeller can thrust forward causing a excessive load on the crank in a forward motion. I know 1 guy and heard story's of others that this has happened to. Does it react the same on a trailer start up? Or just in the water?

But the strange thing is i can run it from the launch ramp at elsinore all the way to the cove no problem but as soon as i stop for a little my problem starts.

So ive been having this problem with my boat. It wont go above 3000rpm at 3000 the motor shuts off like it is out of gas. So i took it to a shop and they rebuilt the carb put a new fuel pump on new electronic distributor, coil, plugs (they have a warranty on there work but are unhelpful with trying to fix the same problem i took it in for without me paying even more money).  I put a new fuel filter in and it has clean gas. Also, the motor doesnt seem to be overheating as it will do this warm or cold. Anythig anyone can think of would be helpful thank you

I agree it's fugly looking but I'm curious to see what suspension mods they did. I'd rather get a new half ton and put my own fiberglass kit and mazzulla long travel on it

Sent from my dirty buthole

You could buy a new halfton take it to mazzulla with his kit up front and a bedcage with deavers and out perform both the reaper and raptor for less $$$. The idea behind the reaper and raptor is cool but in reality not worth the money. For 50 grand you can build one nice Prerunner.

Mine did that once at west marina and I loaded it up and checked the inspection cap on the pump and had a few rocks wedged in the impeller, got them out by hand and it's stopped vibrating and ran fine, water is getting low, I hit mud pulling into the cove, stay away from the left side pulling in there!

You coming out today

What is the closest launch to the cove?

Sent from my iPhone using SoCalJetBoats mobile app

Lakeside is closest but you have to drive around the whole lake because its directional. If you launch outa la laguna its staight across the lake.
