Boat Showcase / Re: lets see your Daycruisers
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:45:19 AM »
I don't think you guys like day cruisers  ;D   You just run surf boards with jet packs  :screwy:

Now here is a day cruiser   ;)

I think the differance is this,  you don't have to screw yourself to the seat to stay in the boat
at WOT   ::)

I tried blowing out my long bolt logs last fall.   I put valves on the block but had to pull them as they were sealed shut.  I pulled the logs and couldn't beleive how much water I dumped out.

That was after flowing 110 PSI of air through them.   I'll never depend on that again.  I'll drain the the block from plugs and put the logs in the garage!

Better safe than sorry.

It does get somewhat chilly here in PA.  Our low for this year was 18 below....

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: diverter switch wiring
« on: February 07, 2009, 09:38:35 PM »
As an electrician that makes sense.  The hot wire would be common, then blue for up and green for down.  It should be grounded to the battery in the rear.

454
Now for the big question,  will those pipes clear tall valve covers?  They seem as tight as the originals
on my boat.

455
I don't think the Bassett would fit in my engine compartment.   The old risers were within an inch of the ply wood of the engine cover.  It would seem risky to me in my application to use non water cooled anything in there.

The picture of the headers above look higher then the old one's and would be right under the cover if they fit at all.

Here's a pic of the originals, and mounted on the old engine.  Notice how close they are at the side also.  When the hatch closed at the front it was right above them.

456
Bassett doesn't recommend their headers for covered applications like mine.  I wonder if they clear tall valve covers though?

457
If I pick up a new replacement impeller will it need to be "fitted" or are they plug and play?

Where do you check the gap of the impeller?

458
I'll make a note and try that first thing.   We are dealing with hard water at this time though  :banghead:

459
Where could I get a set that will clear the tall valve covers?   I can't use headers over the transom because of the sun deck.

Does anyone know of a better set of manifolds than the long bolts that would clear  tall valve covers??

One other thought, the ride plate is lowered a bit from a few years back with multi skiers and a boat load of people.  I wonder if moving it back up would help pull the nose up and MPH?

What do you think?  I believe we lowered it about an inch or so.

460
The engine only has logs because I couldn't get the upward manifolds to clear the valve covers.
The tall covers were necessary because of the stud girdle.

I think I'll just scrap the bottle idea and do a more tuning.

The jet was rebuilt about 4 years ago but the impeller does have a couple nicks that I filed out.

461
These are all the interior pictures I could find right now.  Do these show what you wanted to see?
The picture with the engine showing was from break in day.  You can't see a thing with the cover on.

462
Those logs are off now.  We went with the long bolt logs port matched to the heads.  I would like
to see 65 MPH from the boat for short runs.

463
I've been thinking about using nitrous in my 460.  I have no experiance with it so I'm hoping you guys can answer a few questions for me.

1.  The engine is fresh, built well with forged pistons, eagle rods, edelbrock heads, 850 Holley, Hi vol fuel pump and a very stout valve train with stud girdle.  It runs around 61 MPH at 5000 to 5100 RPM's now.  I would like to try 100 to 150 HP shot.   Should this be a wet system for that HP range?  What do you think of the ZEX setup?

2.  Does nitrous really do any good in a boat??  What RPM increase would you think it would produce?

3.  What size bottle?  One or two?

4.  Roughly how long does a bottle last say 20# at 100 HP setting.  150?

5.  What does it cost to have one refilled and where do you have that done?

This would be for a once in a while short burst operation, not running all day WOT....

It's 2 degrees outside right now,  where oh where is summer?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: MPH ???

You may have way to small jets in your carb.   What size are they?  We put a 750 on my 460 out of the
box for break in day and it wouldn't even pull up on plane.  Between the dinky jets and the way heavy seconday spring it was really dead.

We putted around for half hour and went back to change oil.  Put on the 850 with 80's all the way around and off she went!

I'm wondering if your jet doesn't need rebuilt.  Mine is a 23' day cruiser and pulled 4500 rpm's bone stock.  The speed was 51 mph.

If it's a stock engine with a cast intake it may well be a vapor lock.

I would pull a plug wire off the distributor and verify spark or not when it was dead.

Next check for fuel.  My CV23 with a 460 was sucking the fuel line shut on the tank side when the hose had some age on it and the engine compartment was warmed up.

These would be the easy things I can think of...  are you talking electronic or points ignition??

I really doubt the coil is the issue, that would be to easy and they're pretty darn dependable.   If you take a spare along and just plug it in when it died you'd know for sure.

Just my 2 cents from ford experiances   :)

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / What kind of grease for the jet?
« on: January 08, 2009, 09:44:58 PM »
What grease are you guys using for the jet??

467
Sorry to hear that, what happened?  Rod?  Piston?

468
Just my luck... gas prices drop and it's 10 degrees outside

Dammmmm fine boats!   Now please have a moment of silence for us up north,,,, IT'S SNOWING

Don't series your gauges, parallel them to the power source.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: oil pans

The most important thing to remember in oil pans is this.  If you have a 460 use an armondo's pan!

Never, I repeat NEVER use a Milodon pan on a 460, it isn't worth the risk.

472
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I love this place!

473
Geeez, what a differance a state makes

474
This is the time of the year our high temps run in the low 70's and at nignt,  high 30's to lower 40's.  The water gets cold!

475
It really SUCKS to see summer come to a close! :'(
