Oh my Friggin Gawd, I KNEW there was a reason I liked you guys! Omar, when we talked on the phone a couple times, you seemed a docile kinda guy. I had NO IDEA. THAT is extreme!

THAT is soooo coool! Next boat , Saguaro or the Bahner, maybe. Gonna stick with speed and a simple PD on the Moo, but MAN, THAT is impressive.

Why's it green?

And why's there a sheet behind it?

And, and, why the droop and then angle plate aiming it BACK up?

And, and, and, why's it green?

And, and, and , and, who's shoe is that under the sheet on the bottome left corner?

Do I sound like a three year old????

Feel like one becuae I know there's a logical answer for all (or most) of those that I cannot grasp. Well, 'cept for the green part........... What Up Omar?

Thank gawd that wasn't the Lancer!  ;D Yes I still like it, no I can't afford it, I'm in a viscious cycle already.

I would mount the bow on the tailgate of yer truck. Might be inconvenient, but would look neat. I know my wife would roll in her grave if I mounted it over the fireplace, you gotta LIVE with your decision!

Is a trailer rebuild the next tutorial? ;D

Welcome Mike! Sounds like you've got a million things going on like the rest of us. Welcome to the madness! Hopefully one of the threads on projects inspires a new sense of urgency to git-r-done. We need pics tho!

That's my plan. You and Boost could very well be right on that! Gonna take some convincing to get my son to stick his face into the carbs at speed on this thing to see, tho. But I may be able to sell the idea,  ;D

But I figure if they don't open all the way, it's over carbed, maybe, You guys have me re thinking this. :banghead: But that shouldn't be a big deal as long as it performs to 5000 rpm like it did before (Starving, but it did it). Hoping it will keep going to 6000. If need be, I'll convert them over to mechanicals. But was hoping to avoid that. Again, we'll see when it hits the water.

I think I upset boost by not understanding his post and being a smartass about it. We weren't even discussing the Vac Secondary issue, and I didn't understand. Leave it to me to put my foot in my mouth! Sometimes what sounds funny in my lil brain doesn't sound funny when you read it.

Trust me, I value everyones input on this. I ain't a pro.

I had a great uncle, years ago, early 70's, who got tired of the color of his old Biscayne and so he painted it with a roller and some leftover house paint he had in the garage! He was a lil bit unstable,  :screwy: apparently a genetic defect given my recent antics, but came out, I thought at the time, pretty darn cool! Was sort of a lime green color, semi-gloss, and had a texture to it like a popcorn ceiling! (He said to get that texture, he used one of the good rollers, the Big Fuzzy ones!) ;D

Not sure I'd try that, least not yet.

I was kidding boost, sorry, didn't see the connection you were making on the vac secondaries until I reread that. My bad.
Hoping I don't have that problem, we'll see!

Thanks,

The vacuum secondaries will work, I'm just saying with my motor they wouldn't open up all the way,the motor wasn't making any vacuum do to the cam.

You Lost me, U in the right thread boost? You feeling ok? Voices? a rash? Unexplained Hickeys or anything?:screwy:

If this is the right thread, then I'm the one that is confused. :screwy: If the secondaries don't open up all the way, it's because there's too much carb(s) for my motor, or a vacuum leak, I would guess. The switching of the bowls is not possible because the accelerator pump is only on 1 bowl, not both, so swapping them is not possible, though a great Idea! I don't expect much vacuum due to my cam as well, until at or near WOT and 4000 or so RPM, then there should be plenty!

Now I remember, that I looked at it again. Beer must be kicking in. Single pumpers. That's why can't be done. If they were double pumpers, no way could I have mounted them this way to begin with. That's why this was so easy to do.

Thought of that, but I thought that would complicate things immensely on the linkages having the fuel inlets on the same side as the throttle plate on one of the carbs. Didn't try it, might do that once the electric pump gets here just to see, they should swap over ok., and now that I see how the linkage has to go, should actually clear.  Might actually try it now since I opened a new beer! This poor Mechanical is gonna chatter like SpongeBob with all this though!

Aiight, done as she can be for now. Still have to get the engine cover upholstered, other than that, ready to run. Actually idled at 900 rpm this time around! Gonna try for 800 or less for the goddam decibel Nazi's. Here's what she looks like all buttoned down tho. (No fuel lines on these pics, the fittings just arrived yesterday while I was at work, I threw them on a few minutes ago and filled the block with water and fired the cow! Cam's battery was dead, charging now.) Plan is to head to Roosevelt next Sunday with the kids.

Definately gonna need an electric, so I ordered a Holley Black and regulator when I got home today.

I dare you to drop an e-mail to Mattel for a license to manufacture that! That would be hilarious!

Put a thong on it and some pasties, call it Havasu Barbie! (Got my daughter digging out one of hers right now as we speak. R&D)

Glenn,

I ,among everyone, can seriously relate.  This is a bummer, no doubt. The only diff is I found my wife dead on the couch (Dunno if I ever shared that much with you guys or not, if not, surprise.).

Your friend has a lot of soul searching ahead of him, and a lot of work. I will pray for him and hope that his life returns to something resembling normal.

I wish I could type something to make it easier, but I can't. It is what it is (My philosophy on everything these days). Anything I can do to help. I'm in.

The bummer came when I found out that everything is different between Olds and Pontiac heads.

You'd be surprised what can be done with standard Poncho heads. Or, I'd look for any version of Ram Air heads. (RA IV are best, and probably the best non-canted valve head design ever!) Exhaust is gonna be a problem with any of those, but maybe Ironman can come up with some plates to make your own headers? I would think a generous set of SBC headers could be readily modified to work with any poncho head, particularly the Ram Air heads.

Have torch and welder, will travel!

so if i break it in with something like rotella and a break in additive from one of the many manufacturers, take out the center spring, and vary the rpms, and run a nice thick wall oil filter like one of the K&N's or mobil ones I should be fine for the break in?

Yup, you should be GTG, you just need to decide what you're gonna run in it from then on. And yeah, disconnect the d/l, the hose will NOT suffice on the pump side. OK for the engine.

I'm gonna break that rule tomorrow when I fire up the Moo boat with it's new tunnel, however, for a second or two, just to make sure it'll start before I hit the ramp 35 minutes away.

Remember you're only breaking in (Actually, pre-galling and hardening) the cam on this dealio. You still need to follow some break in procedures with the rings, if you changed them, and main/rod bearings.

But sounds like you have it in hand.

X2, I honestly think you're ok to 3000 or so rpm tho without the danger of valve float, short bursts to 4k or so will probably be ok and warranted given you're trying to break in a cam and sling oil (And zinc) to as many places as possible. (Just a whack of the throttle, don't hold it there). Chebbies do have some pretty good oiling systems, so you should be OK. I would also leave the valvetrain a little on the loose side. Just my opinion.

Biggest thing to remember is if you're using Rotella or Amsoil for the break-in, it's heavier and with the additive, it's gonna have a lot more metal clinging abililties than your regular running oil. bear this in mind and keep a close eye on your oil pressure. I've seen guys burst oil filters on a bench run. (My engine nearly did it too, took a 2 foot pipe wrench to get the filter off!). Still running high oil pressure, but I think I got that figured out.

I ran Gibb's break in oil at Mead, to seat in the rings, now running their Hot Rod oil. No additives needed according to Lake Speed. Second best to that is Pennzoils Race Only oil and Valvolines Race Only stuff. No additives needed or wanted according to the Nascar guys that turned me onto this stuff.

Just my .02 hope this helps.

Funny thing about those decibel meters is this, and I don't know if the rangers know this or not. In my former life, I was a District Manager for Radio Shack, and one of my stores sold 250 of them to the Ohio Highway Patrol so they could issue tickets to these 'subwoofer' freaks. What they didn't know was they need to be recalibrated like at least every year. Neither did I. Every year that store had huge sales in July because of the recalibration repair costs, about $55 a unit back then. And they bought more every time, talk about repeat business!

If they didn't, and didn't have the documentation that it was done, tickets would be tossed out of court.

Just a little fact about those meters. And I beleive it needs to be read at like an 80 foot distance, no?

X2, but I really like the Comp break in addative, I use half a bottle with every oil chang with racing synthetic oil (Amsoil), way overkill, but I don't have the extra funds to build it twice..

GT

X3, 'tis why I use the Joe Gibbs stuff that Jeremy thinks is too expensive. If I break it, gonna be entirely my own fault, not the equipment.
