Just make SURE you tighten, and re-tighten, and re-tighten again, all hose clamps and/or AN fittings.

Not that I would know anything about that............ :screwy:

Josh ran across one also with a Jacuzzi but not set-back either and Ray (IIRrebel) has one with a Jacuzzi

Actually, Mine has a Berk JC-A Omar.

If I ever finish up this tunnel ram on the Sleekcraft, I'll get to work on the thing too. Setback sounds cool Tom, can't wait to see pics of it being done! You can experiment with mine if you want  ;D

Since mine is apart and stringer integrity in qiestion anyway, what do I have to lose? Not much in it thus far!

I was thinking of failed as "open" not "closed".

(Light bulb goes off )  >:D Ok, so two pairs of in series wired breakers THEN wired in parallel?, Perfect! safe as can be I would think ;D

See why I posted the "Over-analyzing" bit?  :banghead:

Getting a headache yet Steve?  ;D How many breakers did you order?

Was Keiths Idea............... ::)

Ray

On the down side of this, the breaker panel would look somewhat like a panel to launch an ICBM.  But Tom could market it as the "Obama Proof" electical panel. I see patent potential. ;D

Nope, mine are in series, kinda like way most a/c units have a breaker in the panel and one at the cutoff box (Least mine does). When I tested mine, the second one tripped but not the first, makes sense. My thinking is if the first one fails, or 'welds' itself closed, the second should trip. I dunno, might be off base on this tho. Makes sense in my whacked mind as long as the breakers are the same size.

At least the floors are still in it.  ;D

Steve, if you're going to run a fuse block, the handiest place is right at your terminal block. Problem is, when one blows, and they will, it's at the back of the engine (Where YOUR dizzy is).  Fuses are much more tempermental and unforgiving than CB's. In other words, they blow much easier than a CB trips. Safer? Well, kinda, yes from an electrical standpoint, but on a boat? I'm not so sure. The best place would be at the helm. But that's a lot of wiring.

I tested both of my breakers, yeah, there's two of them, in series, and they're fine. Same problem tho, when they pop, they're on the back of the boat with the hour meter. I'm rethinking their location only because when it happens, and it will, it will be at speed and the boat will shut down, and consequently, when my wake half floods the back of the boat, (Again), NOW i got a bigger problem. Wet breakers and a boat half full of water with no power. I am even complicating this with an Oil Pressure cutoff. I almost think I'm TRYING to sink this thing! :banghead:

But the engine is valuable to me

A fuse block is a great idea, as they almost never fail, but they do blow far more often. (Ever notice even NEW cars come with spares inside the fusebox cover? Go figure!)

I would go with what you're comfortable with. Personally, my preference was to run overguage wires (which most manufacturers apparently already did, so that was handled for me) for their respective purposes AND run two breakers in series. If one fails, the other won't. Laws of averages. Nothing wrong with running two in series.

The No Wake Zone / Re: repo man ?
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:53:16 PM »
Repo guys get into their jobs a little too much, if you ask me. Kinda like bounty hunters. And I don't beleive for a second they don't steal parts.

My only experience with them deals with my late wifes death. She had a Kia, that I drove, while she drove my Pontiac. Felt better letting her drive the GOOD car. Anyway, after she died, I kept telling the bank, come and get it, I don't want it. They kept trying to get me to pay for it. It was worth more than we owed, but I did NOT need 4 cars. There was no inheritance to speak of, so, come get it. You'll make a buck on it, we'll call it good. I got enough going on right now, I do not need to be listing a car for sale and deal with that too.

After 3 months, they have an attorney's office call me about her estate and crap. I told them the same thing, Come and get the car, been telling the bank this for months, have the repo guy call me before he comes and I'll meet him in the driveway with the keys, hell I'll even drive it to their lot if he brings me home. The repo guy calls me as I'm halfway to work, a week later. I think he was waiting at the end of the street for me to leave. I said I'll be right there. I turn around, back there in 15 minutes, he's gone, cars still there.

Same thing happened 2 more times. Then, my neighbor calls me at 3 am on a Wednesday nite (My car was parked in my neighbors driveway across the cul de sac as we had been moving my boats around with his truck) telling me there's someone stealing my car. I go outside, 10mm in hand, to see this idiot trying to pull the Kia from my driveway with a chain.  Had it halfway to the street. I stop him, call the cops, and after all was said and done, hand him the keys and the cops give him a serious ass chewing and a ticket for disturbing the peace and reckless operation once they heard my story.

Why break the car? I mean for Christs sake, I was being nice. Fugger deserved it, and lucky he didn't get shot!

Got the old intake off, and wow, still evidence of the Milkshake we made at Mead. Wsa all trapped between this pan and the underside of the intake. no ither evidence in the engine that I could see, and oil is still clear as could be, thank goodness. but YUCK!

Also, should i reuse this pan under the tunnel ram? seems redundant to me. The tunnel is going to need machining to fit. It sits too high for the bolts to align. I don't remember if the RPM was machined down to compensate for the head and deck resufacing or not. I'll have to call the machine shop in the morning to find out, but it appears it's going to need quite a bit taken off.
if I use the pan, then that will have to be accounted for as well.

Thanks again Terry. As you can see though, spacers needed for these. Just gonna bite the bullet and do it, then see how she runs then. Forgot about the fuel lines, thanks for the link. If I need to reconfigure them later, we can do that. Like maybe this winter. Want back on the water with this thing, NOW!!!. What time does the UPS man come???? ;D

Oh yeah, only ordered the stuff this morning.

Kinda hard to compare my motor to yours, yours is quite unique and TIGHT! Although the thought of 8-71 motivation IS politicing heavily my mind for the Yellow One.  And it's winning votes. (AS Crewcheif cringes).

The throttle plates on the carbs and the linkages going to the booster pump. Here's a pic of one of them sitting sideways. 'Tis why i ruled that out initially.

Not a real problem, just ordered 2" spacers and a sideways throttle linkage (That will probably need spaced up as well), Just wanted to avoid this if could be. My brother's working on another solution, I think we can do it, but gonna make a lot of aluminum chips doing it on his CNC. We can try that out later. I'd much rather have them inline if at all possible. The standard fuel lines will work in line, and I beleive I'm going to have a problem with one whole bank being rich and the other being lean with the sideways setup using non-dominator carbs. Time will tell. I'd rather have the lean condition in the middle 4 cylinders of the engine, given the Ford's firing order, I think this will produce less harmonics. Bear in mind this isn't the 8-71 you have. Wouldn't matter in a blown application.

As you can see, the throttle brackets on the shafts will not clear the intake, and it's sitting on the booster pump linkage. This was fine with my push throttle assembly on the RPM intake. May still need to go to a pull deal after I see the linkages. We'll see.

Nothing simple on these things. :banghead:

It is drilled for sideways mounting, Terry, I was trying to avoid that if at all possible, because to do it, it will require carb spacers at least 1 1/2" thick. I guess the simplest thing to do is to do just that and a sideways throttle linkage. :banghead:

Gonna require a ladder to put the scoop on the thing, but I gotta do it!

Tee hee ;D cool, I'm on a team??? I think I'm on 2sav's team! Kinda, well, maybe, well, I'm scared now..........

At least I didn't tear the floors out! I only tore out the intake manifold! ;D

But I'll take what I can get. Even Beerjet's team, just gotta warm up to it a little at first.

I want the Stickers too though.  ;D But I'm glad Brad got the shirts, et al, going. When OC2Vegas rolled into the marina a couple saturdays ago and asked the cab driver who drove them from the dock to the motel "Have you seen any jet boats around", and the guy replied "Ohhhh yeah". We needed those at Temple Bar.

I figured out you were Terry, took  some Captain to reread those and go.....Ohhhhhhhh............. ;D

(The Left handed thing was funny though, I gotta admit) :banghead:

Yeah, I agree, smaller single feeds would be easier, but I'm not gonna let this little thing beat me. I think it can be done and work properly. If not, well, I been wrong before and will again. Sideways will not work without 2" carb spacers, and at that, none of the bolt holes line up, so not just a spacer, but an adapter of some sort, if they even make it. The manifold is new, but don't know year of manufacture.

Besides, looks kinda cool with the choke horns facing each other. >:D

Anyone got an 850 or 950 laying around in good shape? I'm thinking I want to run one on it for now while I work out this WY-AND HOW deal.

I'm not entirely sure even a manifold change will help. I think the problem lies in the fact that these are marine carbs, single pump, dual feed. Gonna wait and see if my bro has time to machine a couple of billet brackets tonight or tomorrow. I think I've got it worked out in my lil brain. As far as it working? well, another matter. There's enough room between them to run a shaft, and that can be mounted on brackets on either side bolted to the bolts holding the upper/lower intake together. Make a shaft for between them and some heim joints, viola. Gonna depend on whether he can make them or not.

Gonna drop one of 'em back on for now, until I get this worked out.  Don't wanna lose lake time on this.

......could just be a left hand carburetor. Did you get it overseas?

;D Are you serious? lol No, they were used on a tunnel of some sort, for 2 days, then swapped out for 660's on a BBC. Came from Wash state (Could be Canadien though I suppose?)

I don't think you can go to the single feed bowls (would give clearance needed) with those bodies.

The only thing I have seen that works is mounting sideways  :banghead:

You could try to fabricate a dual cable system (one from the front and one from the rear)  :screwy:

Good luck  ;D

Outstanding, texting my machinist brother as we speak. Maybe some heim joints and a bearinged shaft running between or behind them. The fuel lines are not a problem, really, the linkage is gonna look kinda frankensteinish I have a feeling. Damn me for sticking to my guns on this! :banghead:

E-mailed Holley too, JIC there's something I missed.

Thanks Terry! I don't think there's one on there already, as the choke horns are facing each other., they're identical in line. Dunno either way, is there a way to tell?

But reverse is what I need to do on one. Damnit :banghead: When I Think I'm done, something else I gotta wait on and spend money on.

Sounds great tho if it lets me use a standard linkage and the fuel lines I already have.

OK, Problem. Started disassembling the top end to install the intake, have it half tore apart,

Started putting new carb studs in the intake, set up both carbs, and the ONLY way they will fit is with the fuel inlets and throttle assemblies on opposite sides. never seen this before. :banghead: Seen sideways mounted, but that's not possible without 2" carb spacers :screwy: Something I am not gonna do.

Any suggestions? Looks like I'm gonna need one wild ass throttle linkage for it, or new carbs

Any way to reverse everything on one of these Marine Carbs? I know it used to be done on DP's, but I beleive these are SP's. Still should be able to swap the bowls end for end and get the fuel line on the same side, at least, but what about the throttle shafts?

Gonna be bad ass when it's on tho

It's a Weiand tunnel, and Holley Carbs, Part number (On the carbs), 9015-1, D746.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Ball valve question?
« on: March 23, 2009, 08:25:56 PM »
All you're going to do by opening the valve is increase flow through the engine. Not a bad thing,( as long as you do NOT follow by my example and run a loose hose clamp somewhere) will help eliminate any air pockets, or small bits of 'matter' (Leaves, other stuff that may get sucked into your system and cause a blockage). Your temp guage is reading temp AT THAT 1 POINT, doesn't mean it's not overheating, or not even getting water, elsewhere in the engine. Say, where an air pocket may be trapped.
