1973 wriedt montaro
« on: March 29, 2008, 09:04:28 AM »
Hi All
i have been reading this site now for a few days and just joined. have a couple of questions. first of all does anyone know anything about this boat. second of all it is a project boat, there is no interior and no engine. the boat is 23' long and about 90" wide. it has a cuddy cabin that is about 7' long and about 40" inches tall. needless to say it needs some work. i will try and get some pics up soon. i`m looking for idea`s on where to start. the boat also slopes from front to back or back to front depending on how you look at it.lol. i was thinking about putting a full floor in. i was also thinking of raising the floor up with a grid style support to hold down weight. i want to raise it approx 6". then i was thinking of doing a wrap around seating from the right hand passenger side to the back bench and around to the left hand passenger side. any opinions or comments would be welcome. i plan to put a 460 bbf into it. also it has 2  fiberglass gas tanks on either side. i believe them to be about 30 gallons each. is there a way to know if they are still any good. they look good from the outside and i believe there is still some gas in them. not sure on that though.
any help would be greatly appreciated. i also may have to do  some glass work on the hull. there is a small crack on the bottom of the hull and also a corresponding crack on the floor. not sure how much trouble this will be to correct. again will try and get some pics up soon. as i know you will need to see pics of the cracks.
don`t have a lot of money so will be doing most of the work ourselves. any spare parts that you would be willing to get rid of would be welcome. thanks for reading. jim

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Unless you want that specific jet boat you may want to start with a more beginner friendly project. Either way...

Hi HotRod
thanks for the welcome.
well i`m not the only one working on it. i bought it with a friend who has an 18' avenger. so i am not going into this completly blind. lol. but yeah this is the one we want. it is big enough to hold 6 or more people i believe. that is why we got it.
and yeah i know we have some work to do. that is why i posted this. after reading through this site i realized the wealth of knowledge on here. so i`m attempting to pick all those brains out there to maybe come up with something that we didn`t think of or knows more about.

You can't find a 23' jet boat on every corner so I can understand your point. IMO you should start out with the foundation of the boat - the hull. The slope from front to back would be my first priority. I'm guessing it's a hook where the middle of the boat's bottom is "higher" than the front and the back. What kind of shape are the stringers in? What about the transom? I read where you said you were thinking of putting a floor in it, I'm sure that when it was built it had a floor. The bottom not being flat could have something to do with it not having a floor. When you add a floor you need to make sure that the bottom of the boat is flat that way you're not strengthining the hull while it still has a hook. I think you'd be better off not raising the floor more than it was at stock heighth.

Hi Guys
i`m hoping to get some pictures on here tomorrow. but not sure. it might not be until tuesday. the stringers seem to be ok. i haven`t really had much time to look it completely over yet.
i dont believe it is a hook. the floor seems to be level all the way through. not sure though. i will try and get some pics up soon.

http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/boa/624672726.html 24' Spectra, Nice looking boat!
ok this isn`t the boat itself but it is similiar. especially with the slope of the boat from front to back or back to front, whichever way you want to look, say it.
i am hoping to get pics up here tomorrow on the boat itself.

That's my boat you're talking about there buddy.  Is this the boat on ebay? Green and white hull named High Times? I found that one while trying to Google the mfg. who seems to have closed their website since I looked last.  Mine has a full floor in it, no windows, no windshield, metal fuel tanks.  I don't think I can be much help as I'm not ready to tear out my interior yet but let me know what you need.  I have only seen one other hull like this.  I had a modern paint job with a checkered flag theme and a bad ass Pontiac motor in it.  It left me like a 18 ft tunnel hull woulda.

That thing is  H U GE , not the boat - the crack. Seriously they're both pretty big. I would go after the crack first.

I can't believe that large of a boat is on a single axle trailer.  :-\

yeah i know. we are looking at adding an extra axle to the trailer. it was on a double axle trailer but the guy switched it out for his other boat. and this one went with the boat. had a relative who had to add an axle and it wasn`t that much so going to look into that.

have to agree with rod, i would look into the cracks before anything, might be more than you want to tackle, so why put money into the trailer. just my .02

actually if you look close it doesn`t have the winch tower on it. the guy took the one that was on there and went to put the original one on and broke the  bolts to put it back on. so we used a tie down strap to secure it until we got home with it. lucky it wasn`t far. about 2 miles to get it home.

well it will actually go forward about another two feet. also need to readjust the boards underneath to fit the boat properly. and yeah we are going to look into the cracks first.
