I have a '92 Cutlass with a 335 HP (supposedly) turbo Quad cam v-6. The predecessor to the Northstar engine.  Running 2 turbochargers on it. 1 of like 5 built I think, or so I'm told.  Been in my garage forever, won't pass emissions no matter what I friggin do.  Might have something to do with the gutted cats.  Yeah that's it. lol, must be the Cats.

One of the Pro4 late model race teams I worked for was running the little brother to that engine (the Olds Quad4) with a stock crank and rods, big compression, custom cams and dual Weber DCOE50 carbs making 325+HP.  So I'm sure that with the right turbo set up and a good build that engine would do 450-500hp.  I just don't know how well it would push a pump in  a jet boat.

But it would be fun trying 

Crewcheif, funny thing about the Quad4 being the little brother to the TDC 3.4 v-6. Isn't true, actually. The quad4 used a typical timing chain/gear arrangement, where this thing uses a 2" Gilmer belt drive, that seems to run from the front of the car to the back of the car then back again. Changed it once, no wonder the Chebby dealer wanted $1200 to do it. The quad4 IS more the grand father of the northstar though than my engine, but from what I understand, and I could be wrong, it also inherited the same problems with water in the oil, which is why the quad4 was dropped.

Ex-wife #1 had a Grand Am with the quad 4, silly thing was recalled about every other week.

Getting my mind back on these quad4's, I remember a Hot Rod article on a company in Detroit that was furnace brazing two of those blocks together with a custom crank into a 90 degree V-8. Thing made something like 900 or so hp with the stock FI on pump gas at the time. Was early 90's I think. Gonna hafta try the hot rod site and see if it's archived there anywhere.

Guys, and All of you, I thank you.  I adore each and every one of you. Don't take this the wrong way.

I will post pics of these boats in other threads (when I figure out how again) because it just occurred to me that every time I reference them it comes back here. And I appreciate all the emails and condolences I got from many of you. I am someone you do not even know, and you did that. For that, I feel closer to you than family.

I am at a point where it doesn't matter any more, what happened, well, it is what it is . What matters are my kids, and now these boats, and yes you guys. Tremendous diversions they  and you, are.

I post and chat, and even converse on cell with some of you, and let me tell you, there is no better group on earth, but I realized that the more I revisited the more I want to somewhat forget. I have no problem with ANY of you I have been in contact with. You have ALL been supportive, and even congratulary with my accomplishments. For that I thank you.

My wife died, according to autopsy and death certificates, of " Hypertensive cardiovascular disease" at 38. Natural causes, but my argument nothing natural with that at 38, but who am I. I share this information with you as friends. I guess you never know when your number is up. All I know is I found her dead.

But then I send someone here to see what I'm doing, and I sent a Newbie here to see my boats, for that that I gotta leave this alone. I have for my part, left it alone and haven't been in this thread for a short time. Then someone wants to see my boats and I send them here.

I'm done feeling sorry for myself, have been for some time, and now we're getting it on.

Now realizing I have opened my world to you guys, I'm proud. You guys are beyond words.But other newbies like myself don't need to be exposed to that. It's all about the boats here. right??
