it was more of a getting on plane should the drive be fully down, at what point do you raise it up? whats the limit to raising it without and issue of the drive shaft/ujoints/bellows in regards to how the boat is riding? I also have trim tabs, so I hear those can be put full down to make the boat plane faster at a slow speed, yadda yadda. i did get some tips for calibrating my trim gauge with the sender and possibly to move it closer to me so i can visually see it as its somewhat important. right now its at the furthest point away from me and without trim bezels at an angle its almost impossible to see it where i sit.
as of right now i pushed the gogo stick forward until i hit 50 and then backed off with the drive fully down and the nose was sitting pretty low in the water. i didnt want to stuff it or hook something and get pitched.
Here's how i drive the same exact boat, so i would expect it to perform similarly in your boat.
from a stop i have the drive all the way down. Take off, once the boat planes out ill start bringing the drive up.
as far as how far really depends on how fast im going. if im trimmed to high for the cruising speed it'll porpoise so i just bring it down a little bit.
I have a trim gauge. I dont use it. I just drive by feel. Also when at the upper end, if its trimmed to high it'll chine walk which is slightly scary.
At a moderate cruising speed, im breaking water about my shoulder, when sitting in the drivers seat. In WFO conditions im breaking water about 2-3 feet in from the transom or so it seems.
You will be amazed how much nicer the ride is and the boats general attitude improves greatly. I do have my trim limit switch set to Mercruisers spec (off the top of my head i think the rams can go like 21 3/4" or so) I hardly ever trim it up that high, unless its a wide open run. But general cruising just when the boat feels free enough that its happy.
Like i said trimming it correctly will be a night and day difference, I will tell you that I NEVER have the drive all the way down unless im pulling a skier, or just coming on to plane. Once on plane i bring it up
Hope this helps
