You might try out as-is and make sure, you can always lower it.

If you cut the main tube down, looks to me you would cut the others and have to modify length of canvas...
 
I just got a sunbrella fabric sample book and I'd like mine a couple inches longer.. my armchair geometry skills suck.

pretty sure it can be done, theres a few guys on RDP who have lowered theirs and i thnk it looks bad ass, not to metion it'll help with it being a giant sail and prolly give some more shade.

hey your going to have to tell me how it does at speeds ? i want one but .. not if i cant have it up when i moving.

time to install new mounts, clean and paint the block, install timing cover/water pump, and polish EVERYTHING and get it ready for summer.  first outing is 2 weeks away.

oh and new carpet and seat bases.  not gonna mess with the stringers just yet.

Full stringers here I come! Give me a week and I'll have me in...

stripped the motor with some aircraft stripper, put a fresh coat of black engine paint on it (all engines should be black btw...) and then bolted up a bunch of stuff on the front of it.  i gotta polish it all too... siiigh.

I asked the same question, this is the answer I got

at idle the temp crawls up... i putt putt'ed thru the canal and i was ~190'ish. 

I told him thats idea temp at speed, higher is expected at idle.

day 1 of stringer.  cut the center stringer completely out and started sanding the bottom smooth. this was both faster than i imagine but yet still a total pain in the ass.  im glad im doing it either way.  the entire center stringer had delam on the bottom of it.  the top was still stuck on like a champ but for the most part it was a piece of wood in a tube and not really "stuck"... good riddance!

my happiness was short lived.... more sanding/grinding the years of dirt and ass all over the bilge of the boat.

yeah i hear ya.  i know its not the GREATEST hull in the world. im not trying to break any speed records with it either.  and im not exactly breaking the bank on it.  most of it is just manual labor and i can unbolt it and move everything to another hull.

i like that its a wide rear boat.  most of the other hulls get very narrow in the rear for an 18 footer.  if u jump into the 19 mini day's or 21 you're moving into a much bigger boat and right now thats not gonna fit in my garage.  ive been keeping my eye out for a 21 vdrive cruiser hull to "start over" on as i grew up in one and it was a blast. 


new update:

my existing quarter stringers are in good shape, so im going to notch em, cut the angle of the bottom into the new stringers (kiln dried douglas fir...) bed the new stringers and start glassing em in.  everythings sanded with 80 grit, clean, acetone'd and ready to go!
