Got it home and in the garage and ready to start working on it. The pump feels and looks fine. Would the saying ( if it not broke don't fix it) apply with a jet pump??

Not really, Heres why...Berk calls for .012" wear ring to impeller clearance, the last one I puled apart was at .120" ( a fawkin sh!tload of wear/clearance, and the pump would cavitate. A tight pump is more efficient horsepower. The thrust bearing is how old?, Replace it. Freshen the pump, and put the power plant of your choice in front of it. inspect/detail the impeller while its apart.

I learned the hard way...

apply the old saying "assume everything is in the worst possible condition..."  take it apart and check all the tolerances.

would you really want to put a bunch of work into a boat only to get to the lake and realize the pump needs a complete overhaul?

I have a chance to get my hands on a smoking deal for a Ford 460 all marine parts included. Guy pulled out a boat and had a little water in oil but would this work in my boat if rebuilt? Let me know what you think.

i think it would be fine. I've seen big blocks in the smaller hulls.

What is the best way to replace stringers? On or off the trailer and what kind of stand if off trailer?
