Answering my own question, works fine

    I step forward,  2 steps back   

Got the boat 1/2 way over, reached under to pull from the bottom, and POP

The front line came off and the entire weight of the boat fell on my fingers 

Then it " flipped the rest of the way over, releasing my fingers, and caught one of the legs of the cherry picker in the back and gouged pretty bad.

Well lesson learned, the VERY painful way,  I shouldn't have a problem flipping it back once I finish the work on the bottom.

Fingers are intact, surprisingly I don't believe they are broken, just swollen double size

Thats going to hamper my finishing the bottom as it is my right hand

Unrelated to the project, but I was looking at my loader and wondered if this looks correct

It seems pretty far below the keel line?(bottom of the boat) Is this normal?  I NEVER had any problems with cavitation or unloading...  I'm guessing it's 3/4 inch deep

The season doesn't start here for 2 more weeks

I can see snow from my front door   (on top of the mountains) I was told it has snowed on July4 here before

On a lighter note it has been in the 70's for the last couple weeks.

So tomorrow I will order all the primer/paint etc if I can't find what I want locally.  I just have to keep burning the candle at both ends a bit longer

Well I only put in 8 hrs at my job, but I have been scraping and sanding until after 12am the last few nights.  Took a break tonight (quit at , my arms feel like "poo"

Going to fill in the circled low spots and re-sand with 150 tomorrow.  Hopefully I can get some primer/filler around here and get that done at least before Monday

May not look like it but this after about 60hrs of "fixing" the bottom.  The last glazing putty is curing then a final sand at 220dry. 
Next I will CLEAN out the garage and set up my plastic paint booth

I understand why the experts get paid big $$$ to do this work.  Even after all my efforts this bottom still has more waves than Havasu next Monday

This simple fix   turned into this.  I just can't sit and think I did a half ass job and it still looks ok...

I need to feel I have done the best job I can in whatever I try.  So even if this turns out looking worse than a quick fix and some rattle can to cover up I
will have learned something and be ready for my next ride.

Now, what color have I picked

hey rork read thru your restore last night(damn thats long) boat looks great

After I finished blocking the guide coat off, I sprayed 2 more coats of primer (had a few low spots, my body work was not as straight as I thought  )  Then I wet sanded it with 400. 

Now, it has been painted and just as I read my skills are poor and I should not have chosen a metallic for my 1st paint job   

I did, however, learn quite a bit.  Gun settings needed to adjusted after the 1st coat...  spray was too narrow and was causing striping.  I got some runs... of course...  and worst (imo)  my air line was leaking a bit just before the regulator/water filter(at the gun).  When I started the second coat water started dripping out of that connection and on to my 1st coat.  I decided to keep going and finish the coat.  Now I will wait 24hrs and sand the bad places out and try a couple more coats( with the line leak fixed 


Good from afar, but far from good

Lookin good Bro. Few things I used to do: put a couple nuts in the cup to keep paint agitated , very imoprtant w/ metalics. At the end of your coat go back and pull the gun back and fog a coat. When finishing I would put reducer in the cup and pull back again and dust a coat on to make metalics uniform, no tiger stripes. Over lap your strokes 50%

Looks pretty good from here 

Besides, you started with the bottom, if someone sees that there are flaws on the bottom of the boat, you have bigger problems than just a couple of runs 

HD recommended a couple of nuts in the cup (hope he meant what I think he did  )

I would X2 that but use marbles, the harsh edges on the nuts can damage the cup and the threads will hold a lot of debris...

I would say a golfball, which we used to use on a siphon gun, but takes away too much paint volume, I used to have several metallic colored golfballs in the shop from doing that...Sold every one...

Today I decided that it took me 1/2 a season to realize that there were purple stripes on the bottom of my boat after I bought it(from being painted ON the trailer)  If I have issues with it later, I'll just lift it up and repaint.  I have a LOT of left over paint.  So it got pushed outside to cure in the sun until tomorrow.  I also knocked out the runs, scuffed up, and repainted these tonight.

How long did you wait between coats? Ya gotta sneak up on those edges, Little at a time and let it kick good before the next coat.
