This one only took about 6 hours to go get. Project High Life: 1973 Miller 19' full stringer jet drive. Jacuzzi WJ, no engine, tandem trailer, bad tires, solid wood, this one is hitting the water again my friends! ;D Pictures are worth a thousand words so here's a few...
About the title, I realize that no one on here drinks beer see, and this is a Miller boat, well there's another company called Miller and they make beer, and part of a slogan of theirs is High LIfe. High Life is actually a double edged sword in this case, not only is this a Miller boat, but with me having 4 boats and 6 trailers in my backyard I'd have to be high to some extent to take on another projetc now wouldn't I? ;D
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go break in a cam. I have to admit, I'm nervous as all hell! ??? :o :-\ :D

Today I pressure washed the engine while it was still in the Biesemeyer, modified my P.O.S. cherry picker, and then I removed the engine. I washed the bildge and transom with a scrub brush. The paint is coming off of the bildge and the resin coat on the transom is tired. Tomorrow morning I'm going to re-resin the transom, deliver the Rogers engine to the mechanic, comback home and paint the transom and bildge. If everything goes according to plan (does it ever?) Sunday I'll be installing the engine. It's a 455 Olds and rumor has it that a 302 Ford, I think, was in it. "Piece Of Cake", I said. You can qoute me on that. ;D

I've re-glassed the battery mount in and re-resined the transom. I found a piece of "stringer" that joins the two stringers together that someone had removed some of the fiberglass from, the wood is in great condition. I laid some mat over that and resined the hell out of it. Next is for me to buy some paint and paint my bildge and transom. Damn resin doesn't dry any faster no matter how hard you hard-ball >:( it. ;D

Things to do.
1. Modify my transom support as the crank pulley is too close to change the fan belt.
2. I found a soft spot in the floor, repair floor.
3. Mount the battery mount, water fuel seperator, fuel valve.
4. Hook-up the water to the engine.
5. I need to wire it.
6. Gas tanks need to be installed.
7. Exhaust outlets need to be repaired (missing flapper doors) and reinstalled.
8. Exhaust outlets are 3 1/2" and the snails outlets are 2 3/4".
9. The engine's aluminum needs to be cleaned and the engine needs a little bit of touch-up paint.
10. Install logs, snails, valve covers.
11. Check/replace cables.
12. Modify and strengthen the seats (longer engine than what it had in it before).
13. Shorten the rear seat cushions (about 3 inches).
14. Make gas tank covers.
15. Carpet.
16. Install rub rail.
17. Paint touchups.
18. Jacuzzi WJ transom cover plugs (different than Bekeley's plugs).
19. Paint the trailer.
20. Pinstripe boat and trailer.
That's the plan. In 11 days I'm going to the river, I got a feeling the Miller isn't going. It has to be done for the AVI trip, July 13th, which is in 19 days.
If anyone wants to lend a hand, I'll pay for your drink(s) and your gas, I'll even feed you while your here. I got a friend helping me out with some of it... Any takers? ;D

1. Cut my stringer support with a "U" look to it, glassed over the cut, painted the glass work.
2. Replaced the floor.
3. Strengthened the bulkhead and reglassed it.
4. Installed the battery mount, water fuel seperator, and fuel valve.
5. Ran the water and fuel lines.
6. Liquid Nails some seat supports in.

1. Install the logs and snails (exhaust gaskets on order, coming in tomorrow afternoon).
2. Hook up the existing wiring to the engine.

Things I did yesterday:
1. Figured out what wires are what.
2. Filled the starboard gas tank with gas and checked it to see if it leaked and if the pick up tube is OK. All good.
3. Removed the battery mount 'cause it hits the gas tank. :-[
4. Did my engine touch up paint.
5. Replaced the spark plugs.
6. Felt sick. :P I went to sleep until I had to pick up my daughter from her work at 11:30. :(
I have a pretty full day at work so it'll be another short after-work day today.

2. Checked driver's gas tank for leaks and pick up tube functionality (all good).
3. Installed the logs and snails.
4. Hooked up the wiring to the engine.
5. Installed rub rail.
6. Repaired forward/reverse cable and control.
My friend Don did an awesome job on installing the rub rail and adjusting/glassing/re-fabbing the forward/reverse control and cable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Things I did today:
1. Finished the exhaust (got used AFU outlets in the right size, heated/dug out/broke the existing AFU studs, tapped threads/made new stainless studs/installed studs, installed the undersized outlets in the oversized transom holes, got the right hose and installed the hose).
2. Installed the cleats (because the further the project gets along the harder it was going to be to install them).
3. Carpeted most of the floor (one piece!).
My friend Don did an awesome job on installing the carpet!

I got there around 10:30 and man I am glad I did. I launched allmost immediately. When I left, there must have been ? 30 boats waiting to launch because the lake was full (80 boats). Marc was one of the people waiting to launch.

When the High Life's list is checked off, it's getting sold. <that's a period BTW. Most of the $ will go to mortgage, the rest to the Rogers engine. ;) Count on it.

I didn't expect it, but it was awesome to not have to fix anything on the boat. The boat trailer had a flat tire Saturday morning when I woke up but that was good because that's when it was the coolest temp outside for me to change a tire. ;D

There's nothing wrong with setting your boat up on jack stand like you did, just make sure to use something inbetween the stand and the hull. Old buffing pads work great.
You don't need bunk pads on a trailer. Thousands and thousands of boat trailers don't use them, they use rollers instead and they do the job just fine.
Bunks are used to properly retain the shape of the bottom of the boat. And a good fitting trailer is key to this, and one that fits poorly will ruin the bottom in a very short time. :)

You know, I never even thought about that but you're right about those trailers with rollers. The rollers contact area is about the same as a jack stands too. Now I just need about 20 jack stands. Just kidding. ;D

I got it back on it's trailer at 1:55 AM last night, errr this morning. It's going to have to come off the trailer again today. :'( :'( :'( The side of the hull is directly hitting the carpeted thingy's on the fenders. >:( The only thing I can think of is raising the boat higher off of the trailer. This trailer is taking entirely too long and is severly hampering my finish date. :P

I have to agree with trailers takin up WAY too much time.....I thought I would have kyles done in a couple of days....its been weeks and we have been working hard on it......its still not done!

It's not a flat bottom, it's a vee bottom. But either way if the hull touches the trailer it will rub/wear through the hull's paint/gel coat.
I've pretty much got it done (in my head ;D ). The fenders are going to get moved out somewhere from a 1/2" to 3/4". ;)

3. OMFG what a pain in the assss, welded up some bunk supports in the middle of the long 10' bunks.

4. I got paint to match the white on the side, and then realized that I was matching really dirty white which isn't going to work properly. I'm getting the correct shade tomorrow.

5. I painted the valve covers and air scoop. The scoop turned out horrible and will need to be redone. The valve covers look awesome.
6. Added side lights to the trailer and replaced a taillight.

3. Finish paint touchups.
4. Pinstripe the trailer.
5. Replace defective bildge pump.

Somehow the valve covers changed color overnight as they were drying. >:( I was using a trick paint. Now they're sh!t brown. >:( . Looks like I'm repainting the valve covers as well. :P

I found the front buckets felt "a little looser" ;) so since I have soooo much time on my hands ??? I decided to take the front seats apart and have a look at them.
::)
So I found some rotten and busted wood in them, apparently dumping resin on them is not enough. I cut new pieces of wood out, took the old wood out, air nailed the wood pieces together, put some saturated cloth in there with some resin, air stapled (yes I bought one, still a little black on the thumb nail) the vynl over the resin and wood, and covered the wood with resin. If the resin ever dries >:( the seats will be good for several more seasons if taken care of.

My friend Don is doing some incredible work on this boat. A large array of wet sandpaper, spray cans, a buffer, pro detailers type products, and a ton of patience. He's being honing his paint repair skills on his boat for several years now and his boat looks killer as far as finish and paint. Thanks so much Don.

Yeah, I didn't think it would show up. Anywho :-\ the overspray you see is on the paint , in the air, and everywhere else. He uses mineral spirits to get the overspray off as long as it hasn't been sitting on the surface for more than an hour. Tougher overspray he uses a clay bar.

I was reading my own post, because I already forgot what I typed, and we painted the wheels with _______ chrome out of a spray can. ;D . Hey give me a break, it does look better. ;D

I replaced the gauges, it only took me another hour and a half. The small gauges were about 1/16" bigger than the old small gauges. I dremmeled out the holes. The large gauges were also bigger, however I didn't have todremmel out the holes. The new gauges must have been the same size as the original large gauges the boat had because the new gauges covered up the bright blue metalflake gel coat "ring" that showed around the old large gauges. :) Here's another crappy pic.

The fam and I are leaving SD around 6:00 tonight and going to HD's house to fall on the floor for some more sleep (thanks HD!). Make it an early morning Saturday and go to the AVI with it. ;D It'll go up for sale there Saturday afternoon, maybe say $4250 OBO, I don't expect it to sell there though as I love this damn boat and I'll probably put it on the river all day so it doesn't sell. ??? I have to sell it though as I've got an engine at a guys house waitring for some $ and selling the High Life is the only option that I have. But all is good, becaue the Rogers is a no joke bad asssed boat. Too bad the High Life couldn't have been the family boat and the Rogers that boat that finaly kicks Ralph's assss (Hi Ralph >:D). I got to be nice to Ralph though because he has the Ford handicap. >:D and I hear he has this shed and if you piss him off... :D

The tach was hooked up backwards and now works fine (I do what for a living? lol). The floater bar has been installed and is dripping paint as I type. ;D
