71 kona project

Can anyone tell me what this boat is. i cant find the hin numbers on it but it is a kona. Looks kinda like kaotyk's boat but green?

I cant remember what Kona called it, but Tahiti had the same mold and called it the "Tiger". There has to be numbers on there on the back. Usually on the transom, right side right at the cap line. That boat cant be a pre-1974 boat in my opinion

i say that because 1974 was the year the USCC started requiring all vessels to have HIN's stamped into them.

looks pretty similar to mine. cool find. i like mine because the inside is wide rather than tapering and narrow near the transom, while still pretty long. not many 18's out there that can slap 6 people in and still have room for a cooler.

Yah im going to pick it up saturday in Santa Clarita, suppose to be right down the street from 6 flags. I love the look of my challenger but the jacuzzi yj, 1/4 stringers and still needing alot of work not to mention paperwork on it is a bummer and compared to this thing which has a berk, full stringers, and its complete and put together, untill i take it apart atleast seems to be a better way to go. But with a few man hours he claims it could be water ready so hopefull thats what it will take. been sitting for almost 5 years covered in a carport.

I owned that same boat with same options about 15 years ago. That hull was as solid as concrete, no joke. That will be a refreshing change from the challenger. Best of luck to you!

I looked at a boat similar if not that exact one up near magic mountain...Had olds/berk and lots of damage under hull...as in holes. Water from the bath he gave it was coming out through the bottom....FYI. Waste of drive and time. Look real close to see if theres some jb weld or some sort of bubble gum repair. The trailer bunks will hide some of it. If your getting it for 500 or less not a bad deal.

Similar deal...said he owned it for a while bla bla bla. I went up with a friend who lost his in a car crash and was looking to replace his. Just ask questions and look at everything. I met him right off freeway at a parking lot near restaurant. Not sure if it was a denny's or choke and puke. It was a couple years ago....White guy(20's) from what I remember. Had been on craigs several times. It needed alot of work and was only worth parts to me.

Sounds a lot like a Sleek Craft I checked out in Elsinore before buying my boat and this guy wanted $2400!

I dunno, thinking about it. I talked to "yourmom" lol and he gave me some info on his experience so if it is the same boat and I can get it for 200 less the asking price ill buy it. There's some stuff I can use to pretty much wrap up my challenger and sell off what I don't need I could break even if not little ahead and be fine with that. But I WILL be on the water this summer.

Well its a 71 kona and im pretty sure its the boat yourmom was talking about. Big ass boomer patch on the bottom of the hull but I did pull the carpet up and the inside of that area looked intact.

Threw a battery in it last night and it turned over. Bumped it a few times and the oil pressure gauge went up after a few times. Guess that works to. Threw some gas down the carb and it fired. Filled it up with some water last night and this morning nothing leaked out. Inside the hull where the patch is doesn't look like its been pierced. Still planning on flipping it and checking it out. Drilled a few holes in the stringers and there all good and solid. And all the interior seems to be soft and the wood is decent. Maybe get a few seasons out of it.

And I just noticed this thing has rubber plugs for freeze plugs? Is this something that was common or just a Micky mouse move. I wondered why there were a bunch of new ones under one of the seats.
