I didn't pre-lube the engine because I didn't rebuild the whole thing, I didn't think I needed to. In retrospect, I should have. I unconnected the remote oil filter and cooler and put a reg oil filter on the block. I replaced the ig switch because I had 9.5 volts at the engine. First switch was bad, put on another switch. 11.90 volts at the battery and 11.89 volts at the engine. No spark still. I disconnected all MSD, installed a new bare bones points distributer and a used coil I had laying around. No spark. I replaced the coil with another coil. No spark. Very simple sh!t here not working. I pulled the cap off of the dist. because I remembered when I was a sophmore in HS I pulled the cap off of the dist, turned the engine over, saw a spark, and the car's battery blew up into my face and eyes, so I tried it again on the boat, no spark. By this time, I've spun the engine enough to have driven down to the dealer if it were a car, completely by the starter. The battery is tired too, even though it's new (was). I'm almost wanting to place a bet on how f****d up the engine/cam is by now.
At this point I'm frustrated, tired, pissed off, sad, angry, confused, near violent, perplexed, dissappointed in myself, I sat back and drink a beer a stared at it. Could be a short in the tach I guess. Could be a bad coil wire. Could be gremlins - that would explain the laughing I hear in my head (just kidding). I'm done for today.
