one last thing ::), if its a 65-66.....
This is from mortec:
"Big blocks, cast in 1965 and '66, used a "grooved" rear cam bearing with a matching "groove" in the rear journal of the camshaft itself. This groove provided an oil passage to the lifter oil galleries. 1967 model and later Mark IV blocks have an annular groove oiling passage cast into the block itself. The blocks cast from the '67 model year on use a smooth, non-grooved cam bearing and the rear cam journal for these '67 and later blocks is smooth and does not use a grooved rear cam journal. The reason this is important is that if the wrong cam bearing gets used in the '65-'66 blocks, no oil gets to the lifter galleries or up to the rocker arms. The '65-'66 grooved cam bearing has three oil holes to feed the cam journal and the two lifter gallery passages. The '67 and later cam bearing is smooth and only has one oiling hole in it. A few of the cam makers will provide a big block cam with the groove cut in the rear camshaft journal, but you can have your machinist cut a groove that is 3/16" wide and 7/64" deep in the center of the rear cam journal if you have a big block cast in the '65 or '66 model year"

Funny , thats one of the first things Dion asked me , if the rear cam bearing was grooved.  It is ;D

Thanks again Josh, great info.

Glad to help, the block I used on the engine in our Miller project was a '67 396 block with a 454 crank.  Thats when I ran across that lil piece of trivia, didn't apply then, but handy to know.

Hey steve, I'm glad it all worked out....  Sounds like you hit the lotto! :D  You never know,  that thing might be real valuable to somebody that is trying to put together a car with original equip or something...  If you could sell that block and it pays for enough to build the 454, I would say go that direction.  You wanted a 468 anyways....

No worries on my part,  I just didn't want this thing to be a waste of cash for you,  i'm glad it turned out to be a valuable piece for ya.   Sounds like the last time I sold a used 4 bolt short block.  Gave it to the guy for 1000 bucks without really looking into it.  He called me back a week later and told me it had a fresh std/std Crower billet crank in it ($2800).  Oops!!!!!!!!  It's all good, it was just taking up space in my garage anyways and I'm glad to see it will help your project out!!!        Jason

Thanks for being understanding  and being a stand up guy, i just hope this show's everyone the kind of person you are "trustworthy" un like  well nevermind >:D   I dont know what im doing with the block but Dion is really wanting me to sell it , it belongs in a classic or restored car. i have to agree not just a jetboat. But like i said i told him to check the bore , hot tank it, cam bearings and we will take it from there ;)

Sweet,  send that thing down the road!!!!!   I just looked on the Summit web site and a new Eagle rotating kit with hyp pistons, forged rods, and a std Eagle cast crank (rated up to 700 hp I believe) will run about $1000 and comes balanced.  Sell the rest of the 396 rotating stuff and the peanuts for enough to port those ovals and put some nice valves in it and you will have a really nice piece!!!!    Congrats man,  you really did just win the lotto!!    ;D

Yeah i do hate to see it go into a jet boat and not what it belongs in , but i have to be reasonable here and go the cheapest and best way. Parker is coming up to quick and my goal is to make it to parker ;D so unless i find a buyer within a couple of days , its going into the Omega ....
