we've been workin on the trailer a lot, but i havent been updating this thread because the thread has been not much updates because a lot of the work was moving really slow.

we stripped the entire trailer of all its paint with a wire wheel on an angle grinder...then painted the entire trailer.

Also, I want to let everyone know how great marc is. He brings a wench with him when he comes over. and gives us the wench for free. Cant say no to a free un-used wench.  Thanks Marc!

The trailer is pretty much done. Just need to wire up the lights and get some rollers and the front bumper wedge.

We used a exterior waterproof stain on the bunks and didnt use lag bolts. We counter sunk bolts in the wood and carpeted them with a nice grey exterior carpet from home depot.

Also, the steps and tounge were dressed up with some diamond plate with stainless hardware.

The lights are LED all around from www.pipe-light.com

brad, i looked again at pics on page 2 i noticed that the 1 thru 5 pics show the way you installed it then in the last pics it shows a bigger piece of wood. i am doing my tahiti the same way here is my questions

what I did is cut it as one big piece that was too big to fit in as the one whole piece...so i had to make a horizontal cut at a 45 degree angel so it kinda notched together.

why did you use contruction adhesive and not epoxy?

amatures...we were anxious to get rolling on this project and after visiting many hardware stores and not coming up with anything to use, we decided that would work best

is the transom now double the thickness by stacking the wood?

no, see above. it is stronger at the seam.

did you glass the inside of pump hole and exhaust holes?

we mounted the wood and laid glass mat over it and let it dry fully then cut the holes for the exhaust ports and the excess around the pump hole....then resin'd those areas with a slow cure (less hardener) so the wood would absorb it.

how did you cut the old shit out i know it was not chiseled the cut is too clean?

one side was completely rotted out....you could scoop out the wood...it was just mush. thats why it looks so clean. the other side wasnt rotted and harder to get out. we reglassed (kind of capped) the seam accross the exterior of the transom so there is no leaks again. The cap seperated from the hull on one side of the transom causing this rotting to happe.

and is there anything you would have done different if you had to do it over?

honestly, i dont know...the boat hasnt been put to the test yet to find out....but im sure what i did was better then what was done in '69 and will last longer.

There's a guy down here that does the work for HTM. He's kinda hurting for work because no one knows him seeing as HTM was his sole source of business... Since HTM is slowing down production with the economy slow, he's got some open time. There's another guy that all the boat dealerships down here use, he's in Castaic and he does good work. I know I have his number, the HTM guy is gonna be tricky to get a hold of.
