since the gel work is nearing completion (hes going saturday to see its progress)....we decided to start 'freshening up' the motor....i pulled the valve covers off to make sure everything was ok and i found some thin curved pieces of metal laying in there....

took me a few to figure out what they belonged to....sure enough...broken inner spring...

....so off came the heads to be sent to have all the springs replaced...

now heres the fun part.......lets play "name that piece"...

i found this wedged between the head and one of the head bolts...i cant figure out where its from....its cast and has one side thats machined smooth... any ideas?

this motor ran great when we pulled it.

Looks like the broken top part of a guide bose . Has it got guide liners in the heads or false guides guides was probably broken when motor broke valve spring.

it was found in the opposite head of where the broken valve spring is.

Was there work done on the one head it looks like the rocker arm is new, ore real clean , I tried to take picture to photo shop but couldn't pull it from site or drag and drop it, Would like to see pictures when heads are part, It looks like a guide boss that was bored and not all the
and a guide was driven in and may have broken the top off guide or cracked it, was it in the head with the clean rocker or new rocker,

looks to me like you have another broken valve spring on the other side

looks like a chipped bolt boss, check all bolt holes...well you know which one it came from. If it's a stud boss, you can machine for screw in studs they remove about a half inch when they do it. Oh and add guide plates.

at the request of the guy putting new springs in, i had to pull out the cam to get some numbers off of it.....he said the springs in there were for a large performance cam and he wanted to make sure they were the right ones for the cam.....well, there aint shit for numbers and you cant read the stamped ones at all.....any ideas?

Thats gonna be a tough nut to crack, that is the part number though, sort of looks like the old Wolverine P/N's did..IMO

Yeah, I don't know...Worverine sold to Crane a while back, they used to be owned by Wolverine Gear and parts.

I can't make that number do anything for me. Sure a crappy stamp job. Probably a Federal Mogul or something like that.

Not a Crane, Comp, Isky, Sig Earson, or a Lunati, thats as far as I got.

Send the cam in and get it profiled! Most cam manufacturers will do it for around 20 bucks!

Screw it come get the whole thing....Boat, pump, motor, trailer, some assemly required...
