It will depend on where you are.
If you're in a cove with no wake and are hanging around you can nose up to shore with little problems.
But if you are trying to tie off on the river and have any chance of getting a wake over the back of the boat it is recommended to anchor with the nose out.
I anchor in a fast moving part of the river (Emerald Cove) using a Box Anchor and a bungie line out front and a regular anchor line and stake to shore. That way I can pull the boat into shore when loading and let it pull back away from shore when needed.
And sometimes when it is really rough I'll use an additional rope to one of the cleats to keep it from drifting to far from side to side.
