It will depend on where you are.

If you're in a cove with no wake and are hanging around you can nose up to shore with little problems.

But if you are trying to tie off on the river and have any chance of getting a wake over the back of the boat it is recommended to anchor with the nose out.

I anchor in a fast moving part of the river (Emerald Cove) using a Box Anchor and a bungie line out front and a regular anchor line and stake to shore.  That way I can pull the boat into shore when loading and let it pull back away from shore when needed.

And sometimes when it is really rough I'll use an additional rope to one of the cleats to keep it from drifting to far from side to side.

Ya the box anchors work great, especially with the bungie rope in the front. With the fast moving water, and a shitload of wakes from passing boats mine dont even move. Sure beats the hell out of the way I used to do it, which was a milk crate full of rocks, and tied up

You were close to what I use, I do the milk jug and left over quikrete.

but in all honesty.....now that i think of it....

lets say its 10' deep.......setting your anchor 70' out is a little excessive

Your not in a troller either.

To properly "anchor" a jet boat.

In forward motion, run the engine up to about 3500 RPM, run toward the shore for about 60 feet at that RPM then right before you hit the shore shut off the engine...LOL I guarantee it will not drift away
