Thanks in advance guys for any advice. My daughter has a 1988 Ford Ranger 2.9 lit fuel injected v6 truck. It has been a problem stalling when cold but running fine when warm. this seems to be getting worse as you now have to warm it right up or it just dies at idle once it warms up it runs fine and idles fine any ideas? also it has no dash lights or gauges working thanks gord

Sounds to me like a textbook idle air motor.

There is a funny looking apparatus bolted to the side of the throttle blade assembly with an electrical connection, it has either failed or is plugged up with goo.....

The test for it is pretty non scientific.  Simply start the truck, open the hood, rev the engine manually to approx 2,000 RPM and unplug the idle speed motor and let go of the throttle, it should continue to idle a little higher than normal, if not, the motor stem is not moving and the computer has lost the ability to speed the idle.

Also, sometimes you get a build up of carbon and oil on the butterflies, sometimes if this is simply cleaned with some Berryman's B-12 it will fix the problem...

Grain of salt all of this information, it has been decades since I had to work on a car/truck......

for future reference its called the "Idle Air Control valve."  IAC.  Cleaning it is great but a new one is like $15 at vatozone.
