What do you guys have? I can get a set of car tires for around $180 and the trailer tires are about $350. A few people have said that the car tires sway more and can cause you to jacknife or flip. Im sure this is an extreme case but is there really a difference in that regard? I just got my new rims shipped to me today and Im gonna get the tires tomorrow. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I run light truck tires on my trailers, never had a problem (knocking on wood)

I ran light truck tires on my tandem trailer and never a problem. I think they towed better than trailer tires IMHO.

I put Maxxis Trailer tires on mine and have had good wear and no failures (yet).

go with car but the lower profile they are the better the trac on the trailer it rides like on a rail and u can haul ass..................o

oh beerjet if u got 8 from the trailer builder where is the other axle cause i count 3 on this side and u may have 5 on the other side

First Id like to say thank you to those who responded with your advice....the more I looked at the car tires currently on the trailer, seeing how the side walls were all cracked but the tread was still very good I decided to go with the trailer tires. Today was the first time using my girlfriends new M350 to tow my boat. As I backed the car to hook up the boat I realized how damn low the drawbar is. When I hooked up the trailer the stand part up front (dont know the correct term) was touching the ground! I still had to drive it down the driveway another few feet. I scraped the shit out of the driveway and when I got to level ground I saw that there was only about a 2.5" clearance! I also noticed that when uhaul hooked up the wiring under the chassis they mounted it so that it was too far away for my harness to reach. I decided to drive it VERY SLOWLY over to uhaul, I was nervous as shit but I made it there safely. I got a drawbar that was a little longer and flipped it over. It made a world of difference!

ALL tires are going to do that from sitting 90% of the time .

Especially if your boat sits outside. I park my trailer on scraps of plywood, the guy at the tire shop told me this would increase my tire life, true or not, I had the scrap wood and it's done.

Never heard of that one Skip. But Omar is and you are right about the sitting and the being outside part, especially here in Cali.  The ozone,smog, whatever you want to call it, deteriorates the sidewall rubber bigtime  The best thing for them is to keep them covered Like my 5th wheel trailer I keep at Park Moabi, I cut out 2 pieces of plywood for the 2 tires that are always in the sun. My other trick I use is to put a light coat of brake fluid on just like you would with armorall. If ya think about brake fluid it is used to among other things, keep all the rubber soft and pliable, and not cracking

Omar I did that once with jackstands, works good but a pain in the ass, if I needed to move it. What I do now is every month or 2 I lift em all and rotate them 45 degrees and put her back down. But the biggest thing  is to keep the ones in the sun covered

I agree with your move on trailer tires. All but one of my boats has brand new or a year old trailer tires on it, including the new project.

Car tires do NOT have the sidewall or bias to handle trailering, IMO.  Doubt this? Tag a curb HARD on a car tire and see what happens.  I'm picky, but I trailer a LONG ways a lot, don't want more problems just bein cheap.

Yes, the desert is not nice to them, armor-all regularly, cover them, check pressures, and drag the thing around a block or two regularly even if not going to the water should keep them in great condition for years. That is if stored outside. I think it's a good idea even if stored inside, myself. But that's just me.

I always till now just went by the weight and size of the trailer determines if I put car or trailer tires on, But thinking about you guy's out west and them crazy winds you have got me thinking you would want trailer tires on a light trailer also to keep stable with a steady cross wind while rolling fast...  HHhhhmmm Guess I'm not to old to change my mind.
