A rudder is nearly useless without water flowing past it.

It takes seat time. And knowing when to blip the throttle.

Reverse in a jet boat is basically not forward.

After enough seat time, you'll be able to crab it to the dock, moving the whole boat sideways, like parallel parking.

When docking, I finally learned that you use the FOR/REV lever to control speed. Step on throttle just off idle and use the lever to ease into where you are trying to get the boat to go. Wanna go slow, less forward. It takes a little practice, but I found this method to give me better control than blipping the go pedal and swinging the steering wheel left and right. Hope this helps.
